Once Once R 4.0 Stars
A terrific film deemed a modern day musical following the story of a busker and an immigrant who share a passion for music. The songs here are great and carry the film along nicely. Filmed on a small budget, this film is very simple and heartfelt and feels incredibly real. A treat from all these overblown and overhyped blockbusters.
The Reaping The Reaping R 1.0 Star
A bit of a mismash of ideas that doesn't really work as a horror, thriller or drama. Hilary Swank puts in a fine performance but the script doesn't make any sense. If this was a thriller concerning Swank's character coming to terms with her family's deeath then this may have worked, though the inclusion of references to the biblical plagues is a little strange, though the scene with the locusts is handled well. A little bit of a weird mess.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian PG 4.0 Stars
Prince Caspian is an enjoyable and action packed though ultimately darker film than The Lion the Witch and the Wardbrobe. As Narnia is taken over by humans, the mythical beings must fight back and Prince Caspian calls back the Penseive children to assist them. The performances here are fine - Ben Barnes is very likeable in the title role, while William Moseley as Peter is still as annoying as he was in the first film. The effects are brilliant - and although there is a hint of The Lord of the Rings here, all is forgiven as this is an entertaining and magical film.
And When Did You Last See Your Father? (When Did You Last See Your Father?) And When Did You Last See Your Father? (When Did You Last See Your Father?) PG-13 3.0 Stars
An emotional film boasting great performances from the always great Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth (who shows he is great at seriuos drama as well as his usual rom coms). Firth plays Blake, a man who returns to see his father (Broadbent) who is on his death bed. Flashbacks reveal their troubled past as they try to make amends in the future.
Garden State Garden State R 3.0 Stars
A decent movie that gets going once Natalie Portman's charcater breezes in and lightens it up. Her performance is easily the best here, playing a quirky and very likeable girl who helps Zach Braff move on from past experiences when he returns home for his mother's funeral. The soundtrack is also pretty good. A bit of a middle of the road film overall.
Bewitched Bewitched PG-13 2.0 Stars
A fluffy romantic comedy with a very sweet performance from Nicole Kidman playing a witch who gets the leading role in a revamped version of the classic TV show of the title. Will Ferrell is his usual self, relying on shouting to get some cheap laughs. The comedy elements don't really work and Michael Caine and Shirley Maclaine are criminally wasted in their roles. Ok for a bit of light entertainment.

David's Favorite Movies

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King 1. The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King PG-13 5.0 Stars
The best of the LOTR trilogy it has it all - action, drama, emotion and great performances from a great cast. The perfect end to a perfect set of movies.
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring 2. The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring PG-13 5.0 Stars
The first of the fantasy trilogy is a great introdution to what is to come. I remember seeing this the first time at the cinema and being totally blown away.
The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers 3. The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers PG-13 5.0 Stars
Probably the weakest of the trilogy though still amazing. It suffers with having no real beginning or end. Though the battle of Helm's Deep is outstanding.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix PG-13 5.0 Stars
You cannot fault the Harry Potter movies on their entertainment value. This fifth movie is a brilliant adaptation. Although at times it feels a bit rushed plot wise it is visually stunning and there are faultless performances from all no matter how big or small their part is. The main trio have matured brilliantly and of the new charcters Imelda Staunton, Evanna Lynch and Helena Bonham Carter shine.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire PG-13 5.0 Stars
The fourth movie in the Harry Potter series has a great dark edge. Yes it cuts out loads of the book but the Triwizard Tournaments tasks have been brought to life brilliantly. I wasn't disappointed.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 6. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban PG 5.0 Stars
Harry's world is starting to get darker in this third instalment in the HP series. The Dementors are very creepy and there's loads of great British talent on board in this one.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
    2.5 Stars by Andrew
The four Pevensie children (Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy) are magically pulled back to Narnia. But they find their old castle in ruins and their kingdom occupied by a foreign race, the Telmarines, and ruled by a usurper, King Miraz. They must help the rightful heir, Prince Caspian, claim his place on the throne.

There are spectacular battle scenes resembling those in "The Lord of the Rings", but here the dialog is rather lame and uninspired, and in places, the acting is weak. The children mumble their lines. Some of the best dialogue from the book is gone, and the confusing story line diverges too much from the novel on which it was based.

In my review of the first Narnia movie, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", I said that the author C.S. Lewis would be pleased with the movie adaptation. The same cannot be said of this film.
See this movie if you're a big fan of the Narnia stories, or the fantasy genre. Otherwise, wait for the DVD!
