Bale unhappy over calls to cut Ledger

Christian Bale has hit back at claims that new Batman movie The Dark Knight should be axed.

Following Heath Ledger's death in January, there have been calls for certain scenes to be cut from the film, while some critics have said that it should not be screened at all.

Ledger plays the villainous Joker in The Dark Knight, which will be released later this month. One scene which may not make the movie sees his character in a body bag.

"I know there are a lot of people out there who don't think this movie should be shown," Bale admitted. "But, if you're asking my opinion, I think that's bloody insane. I also think it's an insult to Heath and everything he stood for. I don't think anything should be cut - I think it's the movie he wanted to make."

"The guy was brilliant. He was a fantastic actor and he put everything into this part," Christian continued. "I absolutely know without question that he would have wanted everyone to see it. For me, this is a celebration of what he did best - entertain people...respect the man. This is what he did. This is what he wanted to do."

Bale recently dismissed speculation that the role contributed towards Ledger's accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

Thanks Bale! You said it straight and good! Would't it be saying hey Heath, thanks but no thanks for the grand effort? Damn right, Ledger would want the film to be viewed; Hey, it looked as if though he put so much into it, it would be presumptious to think his [Ledger] work should be shelved. In fact, that would be like Bale said no respect for his work and obviously his life's passion [not taking away from his cutie pie daughter, of course]! If it were a book he was writing, would they say it should never be published--yeah, u know it...the very best would be done to preserve it and finish it as faithfully to his vision as possible. Ledger was an actor; let Ledger be seen 4 what he liked best--acting!

Ledger has made amazing films, and I think eliminating a scene is horrible for him! He enjoy making this film, he also wanted too!!! Bale knows how to defend people, in this case, Ledger. I wish no scene is cut or put on the deleted scenes, it would be horrible!!! Well...they always do that, no mather what movie is...their will always be deleted scenes. BUT I HOPE FOR THE DARK KNIGHT NOT TO HAVE A SCENE CUT!!!!

I agree with Christian Bale completely. Heath Ledger took on this role and got into it so much to entertain the public. It would be disrespectful to him to cut anything out of the film.

Hmmmmmmm... I think H.L.'s scenes should be shown, he was a great actor, better than most of the actors out today. He had substance & I think he would want his work to be showcased! I'm sure he worked hard to bring the joker across as a villain... I heard the role was difficult on him!

Anything that may make his fans a bit squeamish or uncomfortable should be left for the DVD... that seems to be the only way to satisfy all involved. I digress.

Bale's a fantastic actor, voice of reason and one hell of a humanitarian. I salute Bale for his upstanding respect for the late Heath Ledger, and I denounce those who want the scenes scrapped.

Being offended by something/someone is a personal choice, which is certainly not inherent to all audiences. Those who choose to be offended are weak-minded.

I have seen most of Heaths movies and I think it would be a shameful thing for anyone to chop a movie up that he acted in, especially his last movie..playing the villian was probably one of the only avenues he didn't get to do..he played so many roles and his talent was expanding so much..that being a villian in a movie would be the natural step...especially to get a part in batman...that is so awesome...Bale you are so right..
