IGN got to chat with director Jon Turtletaub about the upcoming DVD release of "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets" and also about a potential third film.
When asked whether it will become difficult to find stories, considering how short American history is. "It gets a bit harder each time, because with each film we desperately scrounge around to find every little thing we can use," said Turtletabu. "So there are fewer and fewer ideas left with each movie. If we have to make things a bit more international, that's probably where we'll have to go next."
He continued: "There will certainly be a third film that we desire and endeavor to make. But whether it gets made is all about the kind of things you just asked. Can we come up with an awesome story and great character development worthy of another movie? If not, we won't make it."
According to rumors, the third film will indeed go international, sending the Gates family off to Easter Island and beyond in search of Atlantis. More importantly, the pure, clean power source that was supposedly lost forever when this ancient civilization sank beneath the sea. Which - were it to be harnessed today - would immediately put an end to global warming. Not to mention making gas and oil obsolete.
