Plot: A suspense thriller with supernatural overtones that revolves around a man who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident.
an interesting look on what it means to be a super-hero of sorts in a more realistic world, demonstrating how the stereotypes of the super-hero comic can be made into reality.
"You make this decision now... to be afraid... and you will never turn back. Your whole life, you will always be afraid."
"This morning was the first morning that I could remember where I didn't open my eyes and feel... sadness."
A movie that proceeds slowly and with care without being boring.
The characters are drawn with time and care, layers upon layers. They stay distant without it being recognizable.
What piques interest is that the came angles are very uncommon in a few places; they make one wonder if there is something going on, and at the same time create a new kind of focus on the scene and the people in it.
Altogether, "Unbreakable" has a nice mix of super hero and comic myths combined together with the actual plot; what first might seem ridiculous turns out possessing more depth that would be obvious. The opening titles and the first scene seem totally out of place, but in the end, they make very much sense.
Few nice twists during the movie carry it along, and there is almost a sense of discovery for both characters and viewers. ?Unbreakable? is not obvious; far from it.
I thought Unbreakable was a very good movie.. I just wish they would have made some sequels! Theres so much they could have done with this!!
A superhero film unlike any other! A dark, sombre, very serious and slow moving story. This is a Shyamalan movie through and through. The performances from the cast are excellent and the idea that comic book heroes are exaggerations of real people is intriguing.
The film takes itself very seriously and there are few (if any) laughs. Every line of dialogue carries some significance making this a tough film for some to enjoy. I love it however and think it is a great look at superheroes and comics from an original and highly unusual angle (14.10.07) (10.8.08)
Love, love, LOVED it.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I was always curious to watch this movie, but after seeing the Happening it took me even longer to get around seeing it.... *snicker* Anyway, I'm glad I picked it up. I enjoyed it very much.
Everything about this was great:
The pacing, though slow, was still good for the story and was consistent.
The cinematography was spectacular, they had some incredible and creative panning shots throughout.
The coloring throughout the film done in editing was fucking BEAUTIFUL and fit the movie so well.
There was great use symbolism/subtext that is displayed all throughout the film. Everything seemed to fit together and made the film go so smoothly.
And the ending ACTUALLY made my jaw drop.
A HIGH recommendation from me.
This is going on my favorites list.
?
So straight after The Sixth Sense we have Unbreakable and it has proven that Shyamalan definitely has a gift for storytelling. Thankfully we have two decent performances from Willis and Jackson, who don't overpower the story.
Oh man, I hope he finishes the trilogy someday, because this was setting up for what could've been one of my favorite stories of all time.
Disappointing.
This was the follow up film to the Sixth Sense and there was a huge expectation for this to be amazing.
There are moments when this is quite good but clever twisting of common superhero lore doesn't hide the fact that this is slow and a bit too "stuck up" its own mythology.
Bruce Willis plays the role of the reluctant superhero well and Samual L Jackson plays mildy deranged as only he can so what is wrong?
As I said, it's slow.
At times it suits the moment but mostly, it's slow enough to be called dull. It does everything it can to fulfil its job of filling in the clues that it doesn't really leave much room for telling a good story.
Overall, I'm not sure what I think of this. I have a fondness for it but its never made me want to watch it again.
Oh...my...God. Wow. Normally I've discouraged myself from seeing an M. Night Symalan film after hearing of his success, or lack there of. He certainly paints a picture, with this one. Unbreakable is filled with great performances, a great story and ten thousand amazing camera shots.
Great moive, they kept it real and and beleivable, the acting was sensational hands down. Although Bruce Willis is a great actor in many catagories, i was somewhat suprised by him in a role which is more dramatic. The plot was amazing and origanal, not superHEROS, super humans.
Shyamalan's best movie made. This beats his previous movie 6th sense in a way of characters. is signiture twist that we have all come to expect from his movies was no more powerful than in this story.
Unbreakable was a decent movie with a spectacular twist. The ending put a cold shiver down my spine.
this film is actually pretty decent. Bruce Willis makes a good reluctant hero, and Samuel L. Jackson is fantastic as 'Mr. Glass'
This is the only M. Night Shyamalan movie I like. The story is very well told and I loved how it builds up to a rewarding climax.
Night has a talented way of storytelling. He brings so much heart to his ideas and gradually builds the plot up to a point where we are surprised at the turn he has led us. Some viewers are disappointed, and I am glad not to be one of them.
A great idea that turns out to be kind of boring. It's way too wordy in parts and in the other parts it's way too quiet! Good acting from everyone involved, but I thought it ended just as it was starting to get good.
Kinda dark for a comic book story, but then...doesn't the movie take on the tone the director set? M. Night Shyamalan....and that says it all.
I liked the storyline overall.
The best comic book movie that is not really about comics. It pulls you in without a lot of costly special FX. Sam L. Jackson makes it all come together.
I had to rewrite this review when I purchased the DVD and watched it for the second time. I failed to see the brilliance within the movie at first, and this can attributed to my lack of interest in comic books. However, I was able to move beyond that and see the work of genius that is underneath. Shyamalan uses the perfect shooting method, so that much of the movie appears exactly like a comic book. The storyline is wonderful, the way the plot is carried out is superb, and of course we are left with the signature twist ending typical of Shyamalan's works. This really is a great movie, and even if you are not into comic books, you will find a gem in this one. Great acting by all involved, and another pure work of genius by Mr. Shyamalan for which he should also be thanked.
Shyamalan's second best film. Completely intriguing and mind-blazingly original. Samuel L. Jackson gives a stellar, underrated performance.
This movie had mixed reviews, but I think it had a lot going for it. A super-hero movie without the special effects.
It's so fitting that when he finally begins to pursue his calling, all his relationships fall into place. Wonderful spiritual truths throughout.
One of my favorite Shyamalan film. It's a good film, I am surprised by how many people don't like this film. It's great.
I really enjoyed this movie, it shows how much the power of speech can mess with people. Nice ending too

this is the best movie of all time with the two best actors in it of all time
Lisy thats just dum. He also made signs sdo naturaly you must think he hates aliens? He also made the village so he must naturally think that everyone in a village keeps itself seperate from the rest of the world.
Grow Up.
The first comment posted here is absolutely and totally absurd! Chill out! In no way is M. Night Shyamalan painting all brittle-boned people as terrorists. Wow, how you drew that conclusion boggles me, and the fact that you did convinces me that you are very insecure. I suggest posting logical theories in the future, rather than drivel like that.
what? ... m night hates us all because we break our bones? ... want to take an any stupider, bigger leap in logic than that?
The single most offensive film I have ever seen.
Loaded with factual and medical inaccuracies (Type IV Osteogenesis Imperfecta is not fatal, just for starters), you have to wonder if any research was done in the making of this movie at all.
A friend of mine has a theory that M Night Shyamalan looks really bad in Speedo's. He was jealous of the kid at school with Brittle Bones who often got out of swimming due to always having a limb in plaster. This could certainly go some way to explaining why he hates people with Osteogenesis Imperfecta so much.
And hate us he clearly does, with his big budget, famous cast, thriller that brands us all terrorists or potential terrorists just because we break our bones.
