A mix of randomness, hilarity due to the randomness, violence, but not too much violence, interesting artistic choices that were at times confusing, and a ridiculously good cast. Can't say much about the movie itself, but the cast was excellent.
It's a glorious artistic depiction of mutilation and depravity in high class Rome with brilliant anachronistic choices highlighting Taymor's personal take on Shakespeare's text. Anthony Hopkins reciting the verse is immaculate.
Unlike the chaotically disjointed Across the Universe (Lennon would have debunked it!) and the expressive but cart-postal Frida (stellar art direction/acting),Titus deals with Taymor's fantasy more than one can imagine.Adapting Shakespeare needs a certain taste,well...adapting it like a visual, bombastic fandango is another thing. If there were a bit more craziness,it'd get the highest of scores from me,still...the technical and sociopolitical work is passionately endured, tragedy mingles with cataclysmic majesty.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Be warned: this is not a movie for the squeamish-- there are several scenes that are very very intense.
Visually, this is Eye Candy Nirvana.
Be prepared for Shakespearean english-- one of the aspects of the movie that I love. There was not a change in the language and the visual interpretations of the very visual language are remarkable.
This board looks lonely. Be the first to talk about "Titus" !
