Julie Andrews makes a very delightful performance as the real-life recalcitrant nun who become governess to the seven kids of an austere baron. Wonderful memorable songs, such as "Climb Every Mountain" and "Edelweiss", are brilliantly integrated.

A musical, a love story, and based in truth. It's got all the elements of a timeless classic. This is one I watch over, and over, and over again!

    my world includes:

the lonely goatherd (I play it on piano)

    Doe-Re-Mi (spontaneous intelligence)

the hills are alive with the sound of music ... i go to the hills when my heart is lonely, i know i will hear what i heard before, my heart will be blessed with the sound of music, and i'll sing once more.

    16 going on 17. (sexy!)

    So Long, Farewell.

    edelweiss.

I'm sorry but I hate this film and would give it less if I could. Call me a stupid, insensitive male but hey, that's me.

The minute Julie Andrews starts singing I run for the hills and I find the songs so ridiculous and bad it's unreal i.e. "Adieu, adieu and you and you and you." I mean come on!

I don't get it and I don't want to get it.

This movie makes me want to be Julie Andrews. Mostly because it has convinced me that she really is the all-singing, all-dancing, guitar-strumming, good-girl nanny Maria. Don't tell me otherwise, I need this delusion. Not really, but I really just love the happy-go-lucky, can-do attitude of her in this movie. And can we talk about that voice of hers for a minute? Gorgeous and with one of the most ridiculous octave ranges one has ever heard. I fully admit that sometimes I just play the musical numbers and sing and dance along. I don't sound anywhere near as good as she does, in fact, I sound like what would happen if Green Day decided to cover showtunes...but it's the joyousness of Andrews' performance that enraptures me so. It's one of my all-time favorites, and, I think, one of the greatest.

I wasn't expecting much from this, but I was delighted. The sound of music has everything a movie needs. I was even surprised to find myself signing to the melody of "do re mi". Julie Andrews is simply amazing.

this film is really good actually.

every song in it is great, you can sing along to them all. its so cute and funny in parts.

the story is interesting with lots happening every minute. its about a girl wanting to be a nun who is sent to be a governess for an austrian widower and its carrys on from there with a few miss-happs.

this is a really nice and sweet film. i love it and the cast are great, every part is played well.
its one of the best musicals.

its a real feel good film even with the nazi's

    worth watching definately.
