Such a romantic kind of movie where one love can never happen. The music to the movie makes you feel the movie and the sadness in the phantom.

Fabulous directing and editing - the visuals were amazing! Gerard Butler pulls off a new take on the Phantom (or maybe not so new... how many movies have there been?), and Emmy Rossum struts her stuff as a diva-in-the-making. Minnie Driver... well, she's perfect for the over-the-top diva, that's for sure. I love the musical, and I'm still left wondering why they opted for a whispery, whiny song over the credits instead of a great montage... Still, all-in-all, the acting was commendable and the sets a feast for the eyes. Erik lives!

First of all, my mother and sister worship this movie, its like their holy grail of movies, they probably know every song by heart and could repeat every line in this film, not to mention that they both think Gerard Butler is the sexiest man alive. I'm not kidding, they must watch it atleast once a week, if not more. So having said that, I have seen this movie plenty of times to have a definate opinion on what I think of it.
The Phantom of the Opera is an unrestrained flight of gothic fantasy, a romance unafraid and unapologetic in letting its emotions run to a fevered pitch while still maintaining its heart and soul.
From the meticulously designed narrative, to the arresting performances, to the note-perfect singing, to the powerful music arrangement, to the sweeping production design and cinematography, to even the story's cumulative emotional resonance, this haunting love story has been spatially opened up and cinematically invigorated in a way that the limits of the stage are unable to do. On its own terms, the film is just about perfect, its enthralling, exquisitely beautiful and heartfelt; a spectacular ode to pure romanticism. The only problem is that Christine runs off at the very end with the wrong guy.
(Oh and one more thing, I couldn't help but agree with my sister in thinking that the phantoms voice, sung with a vibrant rock tenor by Butler, was very very sexy.)

Emmy Rossum is gorgeous. She looks better in this movie than I've ever seen her. Other than that the music is too long and too high. I would have enjoyed it more with less songs and shorter ones.

That damn Gerry Butler... I don't know what all the hype is about him. Sure he looks good, but can neither act nor sing. I was very disappointed when Rossum didn't hit all the classic Sarah Brightman runs. & I really wish Driver could sing, her portrayal of Carlotta was fabulous but the lip syncing was horrendous. Another failure of the modern musical. Wilson is gorgeous, & probably the only castmember with Broadway caliber singing chops!

I have seen the Spanish version of the musical of Andrew Joel Weber, and it was a 3.5 over 5 to me. However, I should see the actors to decide if I like this film

There are many films about the Phantom of the Opera, all fundamentally based on the book by Gaston Leroux but this is without a doubt the best one. This is a films made from the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and if you've never had the opportunity to see the musical, now you can. Great story, great musical, great film. Funny appearance by Minnie Driver in a less than flattering role and Miranda Richardson in a small part.

Iusually cannot stand musiclas. i think that they are either silly or annoying. but for me, this is one fo the rare ones that I can enjoy. i really loved the music and the acting in this. I really enjoyed almost all of the characters and the grandioso to this. One of the very few musicals that I would recommend to anyone.

I loved thismovie but hated how it ended! It would have been a wonderful movie, if the girl had choosen the phantom. Raul was ok but the phantom would have been a better choice.

I absolutely love Gerard Butler - as Leonidas and Atilla the Hun, he was superb! However, I am not so sure that he would have been my first choice for the Phantom. His singing was OK, but for the type of songs necessary for Phantom, his voice was not powerful enough. He could not hit the high notes in the title song, but then, not everyone can be Michael Crawford (the original Phantom).

As for the girl who played Christine, I wondered if she was singing at times. She looked like she was miming; I know they would mime to their own singing while acting the parts, but they're not supposed to LOOK like they're miming, right? Ah well, Sarah Brightman, you were missed.

Overall, a good, but not great movie.
