Has to be one of the top best movies with Tom Cruise, telling the story of a man that strogled through his past of the slaghter of Native Americans, and is now to ask to wipe out another race in another country.
However, he soons developes to understand the way of the Samurai and begins to live their life as one.
Powerful beyond belief! A Tom Cruise movie that is worth seeing!

"This is Katsumoto's sword. He would have wanted you to have it. He hoped with his dying breath that you would remember his ancestors who held it, and what they died for. May the strength of the Samurai always be with you."
A great epic movie of an end of an era, the Samurai era. Great cast with Ken Watanabe and Tom Cruise in the lead. Fantastic and beautiful photography with an incredible score by Hans Zimmer.

I finally got to see the end of this movie the other night...and, man, did it stink! They all die like idiots who brought swords to a gunfight. The final oddacity is when Tom Cruise helps his Samurai friend get himself "done" in the gut. What a P.O.S.!

Ed Zwick's lavish and sometimes anacrhonisitic Samauri fish out of water story has Cruise as a US slodier in old west Japan, and it has gatling guns versus swordsmen. Uhu. Well it was a pretty movie, for the sets, but that's about it. Shogun was way better.

The Last Samurai is a brilliant movie that will go down as one of my favourite war movies of all time.
The main thing I loved about the film was how the perception of the good guys and the bad guys changed. I thought this was fantastic and brilliantly executed.
The film is lead by two great characters played by Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. These are the only good characters in the film however as all others seemed a little bland and unnecessary. Also, some of the Japanese settings seemed a little dull at times and spoilt some of the great action and dialogue that was going on.
Overall, The Last Samurai is a brilliant movie and is a must see for anyone who loves war movies, action, Japanese culture and Tom Cruise (obviously).

I would give it more credit if Tom Cruise was not playing in this film. Something about a scientologist samurai just doesnt seem right.

Captain Nathan Algren, an American military officer, was brought to 1870s Japan to battle against the samurai. But in the middle of one battle, he instead became one of them. With swords and armor in him, Algren then leads his fellow samurai army to rebel against the newly formed Imperial Japanese army in a clash of time periods, both ancient and modern. And they fought with the bushido honor.... Tom Cruise (Algren) and Ken Watanabe (Katsumoto) brought us the finest acting performances as "The Last Samurai" of a Japan brought in the winds of modernization of the outside world.

The Last Samurai is an excellent movie.

It's about an American who embraces the Samurai culture and fights against his own country. The script does something that most epics fail to do: Make the story understandable. The viewer can understand what's happening and not be confused.

Tom Cruise gives another great performance as the American chief Nathan Algren. He starts off a depressed alcoholic and becomes the fierce soldier that he once was. Ken Watanabe also gives a great performance as the samurai leader Katsumoto. He becomes the character with fierce tenacity and intensity, but also with warmth and respect. They have great chemistry together.

Great cinematography, art direction, and costume designs. Good visual effects every once in a while. Brilliant battle scenes.

    OVERALL: Excellent film
