Plot: Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba) is an accomplished, independent, Los Angeles-based concert violinist. She is also blind, and has been so since a childhood tragedy. As our story opens, Sydney undergoes a...( read more read more... ) double corneal transplant, a surgery she as waited her whole life to have, and her sight is restored. After the surgery, neural ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Faulkner (Alessandro Nivola) helps Sydney with the difficult adjustment, and with the support of her older sister Helen (Parker Posey), Sydney learns to see again. But Sydney's happiness is short-lived as unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Are they a passing aftermath of her surgery, Sydney's mind adjusting to sight, a product of her imagination, or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney's family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see… A remake of the Hong Kong film "Jian Gui", in which a woman receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world.

Wow. So so so so bad. If I was like the Incredible Hulk of horror films, I would right now be turning green and bulging out of my shirt with furious anger at having my time wasted like this. GO RENT THE ORIGINAL. Really. THAT is a good and creepy flick that will scare your SOCKS off. You can read me bitch about this movie more HERE. SO ANGRY!

Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba) has been blind since she was five years old. When she receives an eye transplant and begins to see again, the visions she begins to see are not her own.

Also stars Parker Posey and Alessandro Nivola.

I was so happy with this movie. Like ever other scary movie these days I was affraid this was going to lack what all the new horror movies lack. And that's to be scared to turn out the lights or to go to the bathroom alone. This picture delivered on all fronts. It was scary and the score was skin crawling creepy. It just worked and I don't think there's anything more frightening than the paranormal. Jessica Alba did an amazing job of making the movie real. Possibly my up to date favorite scary movie yet this year.

Yet another remake of an Asian horror film, the first compliment I can pay this film is that it at least doesn't contain a girl with long black hair. The other is that, despite being incredibly predictable, the film actually has some surprises in its running time. The acting in the film is uniformly terrible, but Alba does manage to do an impressive job of playing a blind person. It's hardly a horror classic, but you could do worse.

I really liked the idea of the story, the plot. And considering the fact I kind of don't have much like or love for Jessica Alba I thought it worked out really well.

It wasn't very scary for me but I don't think that was much of the idea. It also had this sadness about it. It had some really cool scenes and kept you pretty well interested which is needed in films. There was also a guessing stage where you were wondering "Is she crazy, what is she exactly seeing?. The underworld? Ghosts? Premonitions. Previous things that have happened in places. What is going on? or even the fact of 'whose eyes these belong to'.".

I enjoyed the movie quite abit but I may not see it again for sometimes. For me it's not one of those movies you could watch again and again. Once in awhile though ;)

an okie remake! nowhere near as good as the chinese original! there were a few jumpy moments and it was entertaining enough to be likeable! also jessica alba played this role really well and managed to bring alot of emotion to the part....shame bout the rest though!

I liked that there was no long story to this - meaning the movie got straight to the point of what was happening. Quite a few creepy moments too (the little boy in her apartment block & the guy in the lift did give me the chills).
One of my friends on here mentioned that this movie had elements of The Sixth Sense and Final Destination - very true, although not nearly as good as either! Not Bad though.

    Not bad movie...
So I haven't watched the original Eye movie by the Pang Brothers, but I guess with remakes these days, it doesn't really matter, since most of the time, the Hollywood remade version pales in comparison with the original, despite having a bigger budget, bigger stars and of course, better visual effects. And what almost always seem woeful, is the attempt to try and recreate the atmospherics for a spook fest that Asian horror had perfected, and I'm inclined to suggest that they should adapt the storyline (since there's a creative dearth of ideas), but leave the mimicking of mood at the door.

    The Eye:
Wasn't really bothered if I watched this or not. So I did.
It was alright. It relied on just trying to make you jump rather than anything psychological and most of the time it was really predictable when things were going to happen. It's quite a short film, but the way they drag things out makes it feel longer. Jessica Alba put up a pretty good performance and really makes you think about what it would be like in her situation. To have the ability to see again since she lost her sight in an accident when she was five.
The last scene was quite good (where they were on the highway on the American border). But it really needed a strong film beforehand to make it have it's full effect so it felt like it was lacking.

Overall it's just another failed attempt at an American remake of a Japanese horror film. I wouldn't recommend buying it as you may be disappointed, but if you see it cheap somewhere then you probably won't mind as much.

Ok, this movie surprised me. I thought it would suck. It wasn't half bad. Sure, it was predictable, but the effects were well-made, and the ending was satisfying. The tension throughout, was done with good acting.

Jessica's character was blind from an early age. She is a talented violinist who received an eye transplant. She starts to see supernatural beings and no one believes her. She goes on a quest to find out about her donor. Good thriller. If you liked Sixth Sense, you will like this one.

While I really liked watching this one.. I'm just not sure.. It seems like the love child of Blink (movie with Madeline Stowe) and The Sixth Sense..

(By the way, I still recommend Blink.. it's one of my favorites)

Overall, though.. I still enjoyed it..

With its uninspired terror, incredibly dull screenplay and very little tension, The Eye joins the increasingly long list of tedious J-horror remakes. It's not that the source material is disrespected or 'americanized' too much; it simply feels like this rush job of ghost story has zero purpose to be beyond harvesting a shitload of cash from the wallets of 13-year old teens. The better than can be said about it might be that it looks somewhat classy, and that Alba delivers a more than satisfying performance; intense when necessary and, for once, almost natural-- or maybe it was the ragged looks or the puffy red eyes. Unfortunately, her, how can I say, simply 'decent' performance is not nearly enough to salvage this carbon copy of the last three years of PG-13 horror.

Those last three years, too, have frighteningly similar plotlines, so once those dreaded ghostly visions start occuring, it's a flat-out boring waiting game until poor Sydney traces back the original owner to know what the fuck happened. Another MAJOR complaint : in the original, the supernatural angle had no reason to be, whereas in this one, we get a line about cellular memory to content ass-stupid American audiences with a somewhat plausible 'explanation'. Goddamn.

No, seriously. You've already seen this movie before, believe me, and chances are you didn't come out very satisfied or startled. But hey, if you want to see it again, this time starring Ms. Alba in a role best described as prettily functional, help yourself.

    Boo.

they followed the story line of the original and the acting was pretty good, but whats with the racial change of all the original charaters from asian to white . i could live with it if the had left the main charaters aisan, but whats this they changed them to Spanish!!!!!this was a asian movie filmed with asian people, your doing a remake not a revamp!!!
if you have not seen the original then watching this will be fun for you, other wise you'll be comparing them all the way to the end.

The Eye was not a great movie but it's not horrible either. It was about an average movie. I was not expecting a lot going into seeing this movie. If you are expecting a lot going into this movie it will not be good but if your just looking to see a movie and thinking its going to be good you might actually like it. Pretty much the whole entire beginning and almost all of the middle was boring and just had very sudden scenes that would get you to jump out of your seat. The rest of the movie was when it started to kick up and get good. Jessica Alba finally started to find out what she had to do and what was going on with her and people around her. Thats when the action started and it had you on the edge of your seat. For the most part it was pretty slow moving and boring but then it kicked up it was good. If the first hour of the movie was like the end it would have of been an excellent movie. So if your looking for a pretty scary movie with lots of things that pop out at you go see this. The story was actually pretty good as well. The fact that it made you wait to find out why she became blind was well done. The acting job Jessica Alba did was good as well. The visual effects for this movie were also awesome.

i thought this movie was good. but i suggest that people NOT eat OR drink while watching this. To many "Jump Factors." I almost spilled my slurpee all over the place. And also, Jessica Alba's character is CRAZY!!! Why go towards the problems when you can back away from them.. her character Sydney, should learn commen sense.
