MCT:November 14, 2008Fierce yet gentle, bloody yet emotional and can move anyone to tears, that's all I can say in short for this movies.
It's about two brother in war, when they didn't know what they were fighting for, what was the meaning of all those dead, and how they changed, from two innocent young men, lovely brothers to those something they'd never thought they could be...
I've always thought of Jang Dong-gun and Won Bin as some pretty-face but their acting in this movie made me change my mind. I would never forget those loving scenes of Jin-tae and Jin-seok's brotherhood, how their smile shined when Jin-tae bought his brother an ice cream, how he sacrificed his life for his brother's safety... Would never forget the scene when they faced each other as enemies, two dark faces covered in blood and mud drawing close to each other, two bloody red pairs of eyes staring in two each other, with gunfire and bomb exploding as background... And what stood above all the dead, all the killing, all the hatred, when Jin-tae cried out "Jin-seok...", is their brotherly love for each other, the forever love nothing can get a finger on...
If you're just a fan of movie in general, "Taegukgi" is still a movie I would recommend, except for the somewhat over-portrayed violence. -
MCT:November 13, 2008It's a big scale, first league war film with all that it means: big budget, big crowds of actors and extras, professional camerawork, acting and directing, and, of course, a Meaning. Unfortunetly, unlike 'Saving private Ryan' this film is compared to, it doesn't suffice to miss the very begining and ending to avoid the kitsch. The whole script is so schematic that the cliche almost physically hurts.

Wonderful Korean war film that gives hollywood war films a run. The story of two brotehrs who fight during the Korean war is both heart wrenching and stunning. With graphic war scenes and perfromances, this little seen war film shows that Korea can amke just a good a film as Hollywood.

MCT:July 19, 2008It will make you cry your eyes off, and move you in a way you can't imagine. Superior to Saving Private Ryan in any aspect. A spectacular South Korean modern masterpiece of the Korean war worth being checked out by every eye on the planet; simply amazing and moving.

saw this n thought omg its in korean..
then i got to the end and was so stunned. this film simply is THE best film i have ever seen. if ne1 else thinks so. please add me cos non o ma m8s have seen it. oh n if u aint seen it buy it. its friggin brilliant. Full of action and still emotional.. beter than private ryan 10x over
