MCT:November 16, 2008This was a highly enjoyable watch. Some very nice flowing cinematography.. And a very cool story about vengeance... Some interesting twists, as expected, and some truly gut-wrenching gore. This was a well made movie overall, and some beautiful directing by Chan-wook Park. I would say this movie is about human rationalization for justifying brutal revenge. And sort of a way of coming full circle in that aspect. The sympathy for Mr. Vengeance comes from the audience, as we debate the justifiability...

Great movie. I'm watching this as part of a trilogy of revenge movies by the same director. The story starts off really slowly, but once it gets going it's unpredictability keeps you enthralled til the very end...

MCT:November 11, 2008Absolutely Brilliant. Far better than Oldboy or lady. This is the greatness I expected from Oldboy. I just wish the others could have kept up with the greatness of this film. Sure Oldboy looked good but the plot holes tottaly ruined it. Unlike this film where I had such and emotionaly connection to the charictors.

It was not as good as OLDBOY, but it was very nicely shot. I found my disconnect with this movie was that that characters were not as engaging as the ones in OLDBOY. I am very glad that I started the trilogy with OLDBOY instead of this one.
Don't get me wrong though, this is a very well done film. One of the reviews said "Filmed with a diamond cutter's eye." and I have to agree.
I am very excited to watch LADY VENGEANCE.

This is asian extreme cinema sans the high flyin martial arts, the hypnotic john woo shootouts or the cult japanese weirdness but it really blows you away. the plots a bit rag tag in places but watch it all the way through and if your'e not heartbroken at the end then you have no soul
