Plot: Ben Affleck is well-cast as Drew Latham, a millionaire on the verge of nervous collapse, a man with no sense of self who tries to buy the trappings of life--including the family that just happens to b...( read more read more... )e living in his childhood home. He jumps around with a plastic smile on his face, trying to impose himself on the bribed household, who--even though the parents are on the verge of divorce--are still more psychologically coherent than he is. Surviving Christmas has been unfairly trashed due to anti-Affleck sentiment in the post-Gigli era; though the movie eventually succumbs to bland formula, it has some moments of bracing dark comedy and genuine empathy, mostly thanks to James Gandolfini (The Sopranos, The Mexican) and Catherine O'Hara (A Mighty Wind, Beetlejuice) as the parents--two superb actors who could breathe life into any banal script. Also featuring Christina Applegate (Anchorman, View from the Top). --Bret Fetzer

"Its my doodad!" I know what your thinking, its Ben Affleck. But i must admit, he's great at comedy. This movie was funny and heartfelt, and thats all you need from it.

Another lame attempt by Affleck to make an impact in acting again. I really don't mind some of his films but he isn't that good of an actor. Phantoms was the bomb though.

Uggggh...This movie does not put you in the holiday spirit. It's not a movie to watch during the holidays. This movie was annoying and stupid and just a real waste of time.

Yet another poor film from Ben Affleck. It's just stupid and superficial. The acting is pretty bad even from someone like Affleck who has proved that he can act, just that he chooses to ignore it every so often. The cast is bad and their acting leaves a lot to be desired. Not a film I would recommend. There are enough bad Christmas films out there without the need to see this one as well.
