This movie is genuinely hilarious and wildly original. There were several moments where I found myself laughing out loud quite hardily. I believe that this is due to the innovative approach taken by the filmmakers. The plot moves forward in a documentary style that is similar in nature to the hilarious 'out-takes' found in the closing credits of other animated films like 'A Bug's Life' and 'Monsters Inc.' We follow a young hopeful named Cody as he is recruited from the artic and rises in the ranks among the surfing elite. He makes several interesting acquaintances and has numerous entertaining adventures along the way. I think what makes this film work so well is the excellent voice acting from a star-studded cast that includes Jeff Bridges, Shia LaBeouf, James Woods and many others. Most of the many humorous exchanges between the characters have a very improvised feel to them, which adds to the genuine feeling of the characters and the relationships they develop. I have a feeling that the director just put all of these talented actors in the sound studio together, and had them feed off of each other and ad-lib. The result is a truly entertaining and endearing movie.

I think this movie is quite beautifully built and is a must watch for an animated movie lover. In spite of the fact that it lost to Ratatouille in the Oscars, I can easily say that this movie is worth watching. If it wouldn't have been Ratatouille, the situation would have been different. Now, first of all the screenplay of the movie is very good for instance the characters conversing with the camera every now and then is a nice idea. Then some brilliant scenes are there with the surfing in the envelope of water (waves). The depiction of the "banana leaf ride" is also very good. The character of "Z" and Cody is very well displayed. All in all the whole story is good and entertains you for one hour and fifteen minutes.

I liked the documentary-style of the movie but they didn't stick to it long enough. It was still cute little family movie but there was a lack of interesting secondary characters.

Some very cute and comical characters and radiant animation make this a great film for all ages.
The documentary-style story added that little bit extra to this movie and made it all the more fun to watch. -

Calling it a comedy about surfing penguins would be accurate, but would also be selling it short, because it goes beyond that, and really seems to tap into what surfing's really about.
The day of surfing as a mainstream sport or way of life for beach bums may have come and gone, but this film plays like a love song for the true soul of surfing. And if that doesn't do it for you, it's also pretty funny. -

Stunning animation(the water effects,the waves,wow!),an interesting story(not new and predictable but told in an original & unusual way-a mockumentary about the life of a wannabe surfer penguin),a bit stereotypical but still amusing characters,good voice acting.However,it didn't make me roll on the floor laughing as I was expecting,it wasn't boring but it wasn't very fun either,mildly funny...

A bright, colourful, well animated film about Penguins who surf! The level of detail in the film is amazing from the lighting, fur and the water look so real. It's enjoyable enough for the kids and the bigger kids to. It has plenty of extras on DVD as well!

Refreshing to see an animated non-pixar movie not filled with pop culture references and political messages, this is just a movie about surfing. Funny and interesting, beautifully created and genuine.

So this got an Oscar nomination over 'The Simpson's Movie' why? Okay, so the general idea was good it was a documentry format- I liked that. But then they broke out of the format at times and really the premesce of surfing penguins is so stupid it dosn't fly. It wasn't funny, a couple chuckles but really no. The animation was a combo of being too good but too bad from one frame to another so it was hard to be critical. The soundtrack was an annoying mix of surfer tunes and the score really didn't add much. The casting was good- but who cares really. So while this really wasn't good, it had potential- not that that was much to work with so there really wasn't much room to grow and it sort of falls. But the added shorts were good- and it had potential... but skip it anyways!

A wonderful children's animation about my favorite kind of animal: penguins! It's a mockumentary on how penguins supposedly invented surfing. So cute! Shia and Jon are really funny.

This was a great animated PENGUIN movie. It wasn't as good as Happy Feet, but if you think about it, its actually a completely different movie. Shia LeBeouf did a great job voice acting.

This is a good movie, but I thought it was a bit strange the way it was advertised as if it were a kid's movie like Happy Feet but it is definitely not for kids. It was funny, but to me Happy Feet is the better penguin film.

This is the 2nd most boring movie I have ever seen. It was written more like a half hour episode for a tv show (it would have been better that way) They took a very short plot and stretched it beyond its limits. Its almost as if it was thought up, written, and produced all in the same day. Their cheap attemps at gross out humor were more pathetic then anything else. Unless you suffer from insomnia DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
