Aside from some bad Texas accents by a few of the actors, Stop-Loss is well written and nicely directed. This is not another anti-war film, but instead the story focuses on the soldier. Although there are a few political undertones, the film revolves around the soldier in a positive way. Most impressive is the time and effort put into researching the stop-loss issue by co-writer Mark Richard and writer/director Kimberly Peirce, and the excellent way the results were transferred to film.
Stop-Loss is a typical war film from Hollywood. Although it's more focusing on the after-math rather then the, while there. This movie does the best at showing how families may suffer, how homelifes may be destroyed, and what beyond military life could turn out like. This does not mean that it happens to everyone, but it shows a sacrifice that many are willing to risk - beyond there life's physically but there life's emotionally and as they know it.
The actors all do an awesome job and the movie can get very emotional at times.
Negatives: From beginning-to-end where does this movie go? Basically right back to the beginning. There might as well be no ending and it does not conclude well. It's basically a shot into there lives and then a shot out. The message the the movie is trying to get out "Stop Loss" really only gets heard during the final credits and a few splurges in the movie. Other then that, it's just a bunch of random events occuring for whatever reasons the writers thought. This obviously keeps it from being a five star movie but if you go into this movie ignoring what you think you may get out of it - and focus on the life that soldiers sacrifice each time one enlist then you may see another top notch war movie.
Interesting film which reveals the way US troops are turned round and sent back to Iraq after returning home from a tour of duty there.Good storyline.
Po faced and worthy study of the effects of war on the ordinary grunts with a fine performance from Phillippe. Cornish can't handle a texas accent and Levitt continues his body of tortured souls. Sorely lacking in anything very original to say, unfortunately.
This is a very good film. Ryan Phillippe was excellent as the lead character in this. This movie also has a strong supporting cast. Very good story and good pace to the film.
although this is a long shot, i was wondering if anyone knows the title of the first 'rap/ hip hop' song that was playing at the very begining...i keep tryin to look up the soundtrack for it, but thats not working for me...
if anyone knows by chance, please write it on MY WALL
thanks!
chick just showed the problem of the movie it's propaganda for the uninformed, those who don't know what's going on take the word of more negative propaganda, I have heard soldiers don't like this movie either, or at least a couple I talked to on Yahoo. This is just more of Hollywood trying to bias people on what to think and using their popularity to force political opinons on people.
I really liked this movie but it made me realize that those troops have no reason to be in Iraq and this war just needs to be over.
Dont need to watch it cause I already live it. Been stop lossed for 20 months now lol
More liberal mega-crap, it will bomb like all the other anti-american crap movies that hollywood keeps trying to make about iraq and then fade into forgetful oblivion. O man I just realized this is the same director that made that other propoganda gay rights movie, she must be straight from the Michael Moore school of PROPOGANDA U.
