MCT:November 16, 2008I can't watch this movie anymore, after 10 season of the show this movie is all wrong. But it was a good movie when it came out, good enough to make me watch the TV show based on it.

The movie that started it all. I remember watching this when I was little and I would've never thought that Stargate woulda went on to become like a cult phenomenon.

MCT:October 16, 2008Director, Roland Emmerich is no stranger when it comes to science fiction. His resume shows impressive films (Independence Day) and not so impressive films (Godzilla). Stargate is an impressive film.
When I say impressive, I don't mean it in the way of flashy CG and futuristic cities. In fact, this film takes place in the modern day, albeit it is on another planet with a historical setting. What really makes this film stick out so much is the story, which is a great science fiction tale with a lot of potential. There is nothing like the fact of being able to transport instantly to another world.
Stargate isn't about the action, but the run time is just over 2 hours and it goes by pretty quickly. You become engrossed in the story that even the slow parts actually mean something.
The CG is great, especially for an early 90s film. It doesn't overdue it either. David Arnold does a wonderful job with the score, leaving a memorable theme, and the sound effects are also a strong part of this movie. The sound of the teleportation devices are really enjoyable and it is a shame they don't use them more.
There is a good cast of characters. James Spader fits the role of Daniel Jackson, while Kurt Russell, sporting the flat top, delivers as Colonel Jack O' Neil. It is also interesting to see French Stewart in a serious military role. As for the villain, Jaye Davidson is a good Ra.
It is true that Stargate may not be for everyone, but we do owe it to this movie for paving way for a great television series in Stargate: SG-1.

Richard Dean Anderson is the best. Kurt Russel doesn't have the humour or the clever and funny lines.

Better O'Neil? Definitely RDA, but then again, I've never really liked Kurt Russell.
As for Daniel Jackson, I like both, but I think I prefer Michael Shanks just a little bit more.posted 611 days ago -

Yes, me and my mum keep on watching the series over and over and whenever Micheal comes on the scene we sit there and say how cute he is! it's really funny. yer n i spose he had more time but im sorry, i really think he's better though.

Well, Michael Shanks had more time to expand on the character, give him a lot of quirks that I love. And yes, definitely cuter.

Richard Dean Anderson is totally the better O'Neill. I love the series and the movie but i wish they would just keep the characters the same in both of them. like have RDA and Micheal Shanks (Daniel) in the movie. Hey Which is the Better Daniel, James Spader or Micheal Shanks. I totally say Micheal Shanks hes cuter. lol

Richard Dean Anderson is a much better o'neill. I have been a fan of both the movie and the series for a long time trust me, richard is much better then Russell

For my money RDA makes a better O'Neill. It's not really fair to compare though, RDA got to spend a lot more time with the character then Russell did.
