MCT:September 4, 2008This movie was actually pretty good!
Not as bad as the critics said it would be!
The story was good, the acting wasn't bad
either, but the neon colors were a bit much!
There was a fair amount of action in it as well!
Over all, not a bad movie! -

Based from an animated serie which i had never seen before so this movie and content were all new to me. Story follows the young rider speed racer (Emile Hirsch) in a futuristic world kinda with alot of data animations like the effects etc. A few other famous faces here like John Goodman , Susan Sarandon and Jack från "Lost". At first i wasn't quite sure if i liked the movie mainly the way it was made but the more i watched it became better and better actually. Overall a great action racing movie with nice visuals.

Hmmmm.
Something just went wrong here.it's very bright and shiny,lots of pretty colors lol.I d think it was just poorly written.With a good Cast in place and ridiculously cool special effects and car racing tricks thats the only thing I can think of.Your kids will probably like it though.=) -

I thought this movie was very obviously directed by the Wachowski bros. It was visually original and incredibly stylized. Just like the Matrix. I like it.

Quebrando todas as leis da física, esse filme foi genial em criar um novo conceito de Speed Racer. Fez um filme de Speed Racer, mas fugindo de ser mais um episódio da TV. Eu diria que assim como músicas são regravadas em versões de estilos diferentes, Speed Racer foi regravado numa versão de estilo diferente. Mais psicodélico e epilético, impossível.

having seen the trailer, making of n other videos, i was convinced that this film was too much like a video game, too many colors n wud not b very gud, BUT, i didn't know it had a great story, it has character. the acting is spot on, this is an example of superb casting. it does luk much like a video game but had it been made in a darker theme, with actual real cars once in a while, it wud hav been spectacular. as it is now, its good. i loved it.

Too messy of a movie. It had the one or two odd guilty pleasures, but overall a very skipable movie. There are much better choices out there rather than this.

Its like watching your friend play Playstation on a 40screen and won't let you have the controller.
This movie is destined to become a classic movie to see when your high.
The Wachowskis opted to recreate the world of the cartoon but to hyper chrage the visuals. Which look amazing. I think my eyes bled coz there was so much to take in.
Most of the sets and set pieces are CG. Like Sin City.
When i was in the cinema, it seemed all the kids couldnt hold their attention through all the scenes of dialogue. Which admittedly were pretty slow.
But were glued to the seat for the races.
You'd have a scene of dialogue and it would mostly contain flashbacks. This movie is FULL of flashbacks.For no reason.
A character in this movie would be like
"Hey Speed! Dya want some Orange Juice?"
And he'd suddenly start voice-overing a montage with a serious brooding look on his face and be like
"I remember Orange Juice. I was 4years old when..."
This movie is 2hours long. For a kids movie,thats pretty steep. They couldve cut down alotta time if they cut out the flashbacks.
Even the final race contains a flashback of the whole movie!!!! -

pretty cool adaptation from its cartoon series .. nice race n action sequences .. dont believe what public said that this flick is suck so sunk its box office .. perhaps cos its colorful n family theme ..

A decent racing pic. Some dislike the visual style but I thought it was cool. My main problem is that it is a good 40 minutes to long, the excess cutaway crowd reaction shots, throwaway scenes, and flashbacks completely kill the flow of the film.

Im really not sure about this. if you ask me whether or not i liked the movie itself. i'd have to say bloody well no. the way it is shot and the effects are just so bloody annoying at times. but the story and the acting and the car racers are great. its the just the bloody dodgey camera things where everything blurs in and out. ahhh! its really annoying but i can live with it enough to watch the whole film and say if they took out them annoying bits it would of been great. i'm not so sure with the final cut but i'm sure below the shiteyness of the actual editing it is a good film.
plus it darn helps that emile is as cute as a button. -

Hard to say with this one. On one hand, I really liked it and had a great time watching it. But if someone were to tell me they hated it, and explain why, I'd probably agree with everything they said. I went to the theatre expecting to hate it, but really had fun. It's not for everyone, I guess. Just see it to find out for yourself. But DON'T wait for DVD. If there was ever a movie that needed to be seen on the big screen this is it. Also, if you get motion sickness, bring a bag or something. Oh, and if you're epileptic, you should probably just stay home.

Just insane.
Perfect, really, could have not of been better. I love every second of it, never a dull moment. Emile Hirsch is a perfect, all around the perfect cast. Amazing effects!!

I don't know if the movie was made for adults of for kids. It was like seeing a live action cartoon. It was a shame that i couldn't see a damn thing when the races were happening. Too fast, and too many bright lights flashing so i couldn't follow. In fact, in the last part of the final race, before the finish line, i really didn't know what happen to both of the enemy's car...!

Very cartoonish, but beautifully edited and mastered into one fun piece of visual entertainment. Consider the main plot to be relatively straightforward as it's the small things that make this movie interesting and enjoyable. I don't regret the time spent on it, neither should you.

It's amazing; it's like travel through the time, it's like go to the past but in a digital way, really amazing!!!! I loved Speed Racer series and this movie it's more than good enough to recreate that serie... entertaining and funny...

The colors and cg were initially dazzling and almost enough to convince me to give this movie a higher rating than the average baseline of 3.5 stars. But as the first project directed by the Wachowski Brothers after the Matrix trilogy, I think most adults would have been disappointed. I doubt anyone older than the primary target audience of elementary and junior high kids would be impressed by the acting, which was a bit over-the-top. Speed Racer himself was strangely not as animated as the characters around him. Even if that was based on the original character in the manga, it's a bit hard to buy since producing it in an American context makes it a rather different story altogether.
The story itself progressed at a rate that didn't let the viewer fully appreciate all of the main characters or the threat to the Racer family. Again, this probably works better on a kiddie audience, but doesn't go over too well for adults who know what they paid for their tickets. Not to mention, the Wachowski Bros. had plenty of source material from the Japanese comic. When compared to Pixar, who can make animated movies loved by both adults and kids, I find it hard to cut them slack just because this is a children's movie.

Overall I really liked it. It stayed pretty true to the show without being overly imitative of it.
I gotta say, parts of it were really loud, Trixie wasn't like she used to be, and plot-wise it wasn't much to write home about, but once again, the whole picture, I liked.posted 104 days ago -

i think of myself as a true children movie and cartoon lover, so i thought this movie would be ok and that i would like it. But i was wrong. this movie really did not peak my interest. It was kind of boring. The only thing that kept my attention was the bright vibrant colors and the gorgeously amazing graphics. But having great graphics and cool cars don't do for me. I need more substance in the story line, and this movie lacked it severely. Another thing that annoyed me was the fact that they were over-empasizing racing to the point you wanted to throw something at the screen. I mean, dang! I get it! the family liked racing but calm the hell down! yeah! this movie really sucked. I couldn't wait for it to be over. I only went to see it because a friend wanted to.
