About 20 minutes into this, it suddenly occurred to me - RIchard Kelly is the next generation David Lynch... This film is BRILLIANT! Warped, yes, and nigh on impossible to explain - but a great way to spend a couple of hours. Great story, stunning visuals, AMAZING performances (from everyone, but the ones that spring to mind are Justin Timberlake, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar and dear old Dwayne - phenomenal, the lot). Just like "Donnie" before it, this film is a mind trip - but thoroughly entertaining. WATCH IT!
This movie is incredible. Leaves you with so much to think about and yet its impossible to know where to start. I cant give it more than 3 simply because its impenitrable, i dont understand much of it, and on that level its a faliure. However i like to think your not meant to understand it, not meant to analyse all the religious and political connections, simply not meant to over analyse it in any respect, just absorb it and accept it for what it is... fucking incredible, and on that level its a 5 out of 5.
I can see alot of people disliked this movie and i can see why, but ive always believed that perfection in anything is unachievable and undesirable, because beauty and meaning is found in imperfection not perfection. We are all impefect, and rightly so. Maybe this movie was too close to perfection for us to grasp? I know that raises the question over how the hell it was made in the first place if that is the case, but like i said, no point analysing, just aborb and appeciate.
Could be the most interesting and textured film I've seen in years. Endlessly confusing but never un-interesting.
Fascinating interpretation of the apocolyse. The ending 10 minutes was the only part really worth watching. Sadly, you needed to watch the rest of the film to understand it, which was horrible. I was dumbstruck by the horrible script, makeup, and acting. It was a big budget, high tech flop.
I like a film that truly makes you think "what just happened". Richard Kelly doesn't shy away from symbolism and religious theme's, An underrated modern classic.
