One of the creepiest movies I've seen in a long time...had a lot of moments where I was just going "what the fuuuuuck"
Recommended for horror movie fans - GOOD horror movies that don't rely on gore to tell the story (altho there is a large amount of it here - the majority of the scares are psychological)
I much perfured the Game, felt it doesn't really do the game justice...! but still a very good film and enjoyable
A film that left you just wanting much more. And that is saying alot. Christophe Gans and Writer Roger Avary adapted this film from the first Silent Hill game. Sure it may not directly follow the first game but it did revolve around a parent finding a child(which the first game was about).
There were alterations in the film though. One of them was the fact the main character was a woman and not a man. Also another alteration was that Pyramid Headand the Mental Patient was one of the baddies in this film.
Pyramid Head and the Mental Patients didn't make their debut til the Silent Hill 2 game came out. I felt a tad bit disappointed but in the end it was a good film. The produvtion was done pretty well. The town of Silent Hill looked as it did in the video games, but instead of Fog it was ash that shrouded the town. Also the visual effects were pretty good. For a video game based film the VFX looked pretty neat.
The way the hell world looked was pretty neat and really liked the effect on how it changed before the mother's very eye.The only problem I have is the fact that some of the acting isn't much good.
I expected that from a film based on a game but the overall verdict is that this is a pretty decent video game based film
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Laurie Holden... They make me happy.
I am not the kind of person that regrets things or dwells in the past very much but I DEEPLY regret not seeing this in the theater.
It was kind of creepy, maybe gross at times, but not very scary. i was never really scared during any point of the movie. They did a good job at translating the two world concept that you get from the game. I was not crazy about the ending, but i am not one to spoil anything.
I love this movie. it was a bit scary. I loved the whole story line the ending was unpredictable which was very good. This movie is worth watching if you are into scary movie.
Silent Hill is really awesome even though it's too scary for me haha.....the special fx and make up were really good, and I absolutely dig the ending :p
Rose cannot accept the medical diagnosis that her daughter, who suffers nightmarish trances in which she refers to the town of Silent Hill, is going insane. Over the protests of her husband, she flees with her child, Sharon, to Silent Hill seeking answers for her daughter's condition. It is revealed that the town had been evacuated thirty years earlier due to an unstoppable (and still burning) underground coal fire, and that Sharon was likely born there. A local motorcycle cop named Sybil ends up pursuing Rose and Sharon into the outskirts of the abandoned and cordoned off town on a rainy night, where they suffer simultaneous "wipe-outs" and black out. Rose awakens to find that everything is lit by an unearthly, luminous mist and that her daughter is gone from her SUV. Following what she thinks is her daughter's silhouette all over town, Rose is lured to a group of horrific creatures and blacks out again to the sound of a wailing emergency-alert siren--just as the creatures have gotten a good grip on her. . . . .
Let me tell you a story about a place, a place called Silent Hill. Rose doesn't know what to do with her daughter Sharon. She has tried everything to help her sleepwalking, but nothing seems to work. But that's not the only problem. When Sharon sleeps, she speaks of a place called Silent Hill.
Against her husband's wishes, Rose takes Sharon to Silent Hill. The town was evacuated years ago and most of it is in ruins after fires, burning under the streets, left it uninhabitable. So why are things still moving in Silent Hill?
Everything about this movie is awesome. The sets are amazing. The town is creepy, with a constant fog over everything. The score adds to the tension with music taken from the Silent Hill games. The sets and score aside, the monsters are the genuine scene-stealers. The burning kids, the things with no arms, the dead nurses with messed up faces will give you nightmares, but it's Pyramid Head who will leave you needing a change of underwear. This guy could give any of the horror icons of the last 20 years a run for their money.
Let's not forget the lead actors, who help take you on this fearful journey through the most haunted fictional place in America. Radha Mitchell is excellent as Rose and Jodelle Ferland will creep you out as Sharon. Laurie Holden plays the poor cop who finds herself chasing Rose into Silent Hill and Deborah Kara Unger is Dahlia Gillespie, who hides her own little secrets in the town that won't stay dead. Unfortunately there is one character to whom I cannot give credit and that is Sean Bean as Rose's husband. Great actor, but his time in this movie is wasted.
Silent Hill captures everything a great horror film should, without falling back on those predict-a-scare moments that have become part of the genre's visual furniture. We have writer Roger Avary (Rules Of Attraction) and director Christophe Gans (Brotherhood Of The Wolf) to thank for that. I beg that Hollywood puts them together again.
This movie needs to be seen to be believed and to Mr Uwe Boll and Mr Paul WS Anderson I say, "Take notice. This is how survival horror should be done."
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO HOLY SHIT!! ONE OF THE MOST SCARIEST MOVIES IVE EVER WATCHED IN MY WHOLE LIFE!! IT SCARED THE FUCKING BEJESUS OUTTA ME!! HAD NIGHTMARES FOR A MONTH!
The monsters were a bit disturbing, atmosphere was great (lighting and music), enjoyable story but the ending left me a bit indifferent :S.
Although some of the scenes at the start were pretty cool cause they were straight from the game, the rest of the film was poor. Didn't really understand what was goin on and the ending confused me.
wouldnt have watched it if i knew i was watching dead people... but overall... it was a nice horror movie
My son told me it was the scariest movie he's seen. I was sooooo bored. Useless gore, stupid story...I slept for awhile and missed nothing.
''Honey, sometimes when you go to sleep you go on a little walk. And sometimes you talk about a place - called Silent Hill...''
''I don't remember.''
''That's okay honey, that's why we're gonna go there. So you can remember.''
A woman goes in search for her daughter, within the confines of a strange, desolate town called Silent Hill. Based on the video game.
Radha Mitchell: Rose Da Silva
Sean Bean: Christopher Da Silva
Big fan of the silent hill games so was generally excited and eager to see the film version.
Was slightly disappointed with the storyline especially the ending which to me did not feel like a conclusion(sequel please).
Did like the creatures and the way everything changed into the dark other-world. Sean Bean seemed disconnected from the story, which could of had him searching for his wife in the same reality as opposed to them in alternate worlds. Loved the pyramid head(where did he go?), the nurses in the corridor was very clever.
Also the haunting sounds and music is kept true to the games and that tune with the guitar is spine tingling.
Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf director Christophe Gans has managed to capture the look and feel of the Silent Hill.
Duplicating everything from the town's fog-shrouded streets and dilapidated shop-fronts to the grinding, rusted nightmare of its 'dark world', Silent Hill immobilizes and formulates the look and feel of the game with perfect clarity and accuracy. Familiar locations are present and correct, the grotesque creatures replicated with horrific attention to detail and even the game's familiar, unsettling score returns to gnaw steadily at the nerve endings. This is a masterful tribute to the game series.
Did quite enjoy Silent Hill overall so much, but still think the film is no where near as good as the games. Saying that this is the best video game adapt I've seen apart from the Resident Evil series, although Silent Hill was always more psychological relying on ambient sounds and darkness to play against your fears.Still...room for improvement if they do a sequel...
I can't wait to return to Silent Hill''Mother is God
in the eyes of
a child.''
Pretty good. Nice and gory. Had to watch it several times, it was confusing. Bottom line: It was so scary and good. Must see.
Great film and espically good for a film based on a game. A very different plot that is extremely interesting and some really good susepnsful scenes.
The games are better, but if you like the games, don't pass up the movie! It still has Pyramid Head in it after all, what could be bad about it?
You have played the games, now see the movie! It is so awesome to see silent hill come to life on the big screen. One of my favs.
Pratiquement une des seules adaptation de jeu vidéo réussie.
Ambiance pesante, noirceurs parfaitement rendus. Glauque et jubilatoire à souhait.
Tellement réussi d'un point de vue graphique, photo, image et son, qu'on lui pardonne quelques imperfections d'interprétations.
My friend had this game and I was way too scared to even play for more than 10 minutes (scarred from resident evil just an hour before) so I was thinking omg this film is gunna scare the shite out of me. The beginning sucked me in with the little girl screaming 'Silent Hill' and with her mom standing in the middle of the eerie setting of Silent Hill with the whole "where is everybody" feel. The effects of the monsters were impressive and very gruesome. However I just completely lost interest afterwards with the story and found myself bored.
Brilliant! I wish they had put a little more Detail into the film though. Like on the Games There was Alot Alot more monster... but there is rumour of Silient Hill 2... (Hurray).
It was funny seeing this film at the Cinema in the middle of the day Because when i Came out it was soo sunny after being in a foggy erie atmosphere Was Weird! lol
