Plot: Jackie Moon, the owner-coach-player of the American Basketball Association's Flint Michigan Tropics, rallies his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true.
I'm disappointed because there isn't much basketball action and it isn't very funny as well. Will Ferrell should buck up in his future movies. But the ending part is quite funny, with the discovery of alley-oop and winning the final game.
A lot of people don't seem to like this movie much but I thought it was pretty good. It isn't Will's best movie but not his worst either. It had some really funny parts in it but it just wasn't enough to make it hilarious. I think if it had some more laughs and a little different cast then it could have been great. The storyline was interesting so there was no problem there. It just came down to needing more Comedy and a diffrent cast.
I AM DONE with Will Ferrell. I used to get excited when a Will Ferrell movie was coming out. Now its like "okay another one", well congratulations youre like the next Kenny Rogers. If you make 29 films a year, how many hits can you have?? Every single one is the same: Will is a big-shot at something. Will has a new competition. Will loses to him/her at whatever Will does. Will is funny-depressed for 5 minutes. One of Will's friends finds him in a dumpster/bar/strip-club/jail,ect. and gets him all pumped up to do what hes good at again. Will saves the day in his underwear...yay. And another thing why is Andre' 3000 co-starring in this film??!! literally all he says is "dat be booshit, rules is rules nigga"
Alright, I'm just gonna get right into this one... as we all know, Will Farrell has done some flops lately, Blades of Glory really wasn't a funny movie, you die-hard Farrell fans may disagree, whatever, it wasn't funny. His last semi-descent movie was Talladega Nights and that was what? 2 years ago... This film was a definite flop, very unfunny, most unfunny comedies have their alright funny moments, this one had less than three 'laugh out load' worthy moments, they were few and far between and not memorable after all, as for the plot, I suppose it was alright, even though it was a lost cause and they knew it from half-way through the movie, yet they still go for it. Farrell's performance was very lacking, I just didn't feel the vibe he gives off when he's being funny, it wasn't there. I would say this movie was Semi-Good, but then I'd be thinking far too highly of it.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this all together, there's no aspect of the film that's worth the time.
Semi-funny. It had a couple of lol moments. I prefer Ferrell as a more naive childlike character. It was ok though.
Ive watched about half and really not doin anything for me... except Will's fro. Watched all, not to please there wasnt a naked love scene for Will and that Heidi Klum wasnt in it at all? lol
it's just bored in the beginning, but quite hilarious after all. for me, not worthing watching this.
Not Will Ferrell's best effort, yet it still entertains mildly with its grotesque laughs and cheap thrills. The supporting characters, played by the likes of Andre Benjamin and Woody Harrelson do a good enough job for this sporting spoof. It's still no Anchorman, though.
diis was the most outrageous fiilm ever iin my liife went to see iit iin ciinemas ii near fell asleep.
Jackie Moon: "Everybody panic! Oh my God, there's a bear loose in the coliseum! There will be no refunds! Your refund will be escaping this deathtrap with your life! If you have a small child, use it as a shield! They love the tender meat! Cover your sodas! Dewie loves sugar!"
The movie finds Ferrell as Jackie Moon, a one-hit wonder from the disco era who used his pop music riches to buy the Flint Michigan Tropics, a bumbling ABA team nearing the end of that league's era. The announcement is made that the ABA is folding and only four teams will be absorbed into the NBA; it's determined that the league's four top-ranking teams will be ones to merge, a promise that may or may not be kept. Semi-Pro works best as an "underdogs make good" sort of film, where we watch the team bond and go through the usual training montages and emotional upsets. It's nothing new, but with actors like André Benjamin and Woody Harrelson on board, it stays remarkably fresh. Laughs come from the mouth of Ferrell, who, as his did in "Blades," takes off on his own spaceship of thought and tangents. Watching Jackie freak out over the continual failure of his team is entertaining footage. Semi-Pro is at its funniest when it's at its most surreal. The bickering between the team members is the source of some amusement, and the commentators played by Andrew Daly and Will Arnett are an absolute riot. Each character has a few scenes where they are allowed to shine too, and the eccentricity of some of them adds to the flavour. But for pure belly laughs, you cannot beat the moments where strangeness is an understatement. It's madcap and thoroughly nutty, but that's also what makes it work.
This wasn't nearly as bad as people led me to believe it would be. It made me chuckle in a few spots, but I love Will Ferrell, what can I say?
The kind of funny Will Farrell movie that cannot fail to cheer you up if you're feeling out of it. Other than that... meh.
A step up from Blades of Glory, but still Will Ferrell is starting to look stale. However there were one or two pretty hilarious scenes.
In my eyes not Will Ferrels best showing but I think Anchorman and Taladega are to hard to beat. Liked Woody Harrelson in this as well, reminded me of him in Kingpin.
Yea this was different and a bit silly, but what do you expect from Will Ferrell? Plus you knew what was gonna happen from the start, so overall it was alright. He's had better movies though.
Earlier this week I watched Mr. Woodcock which made it quite obvious Billy Bob Thornton was spinning his acting wheels. Well, after watchingSemi-Pro, I almost feel like saying the same thing about Will Ferrell.
His fourth sports-themed movie in the last three years, Ferrell brings his usual goofy tone and there are some amusing moments here, but when all is said and done Semi-Pro is pretty easy to skip over.
Woody Harrelson is completely pointless here (as is Maura Tierney as his re-kindled love interest, a sub-plot that's unneeded and goes nowhere) and the cast is filled with the typical familiar comedic faces you'd expect.
While it's not nearly as bad as Kicking & Screaming this is a mediocre Ferrell vehicle and more of the same from him - let's hope Step Brothers helps re-establish him as the king of dumb, non-sports, comedy.
Another comedy flick! ^^ =)
Will Ferrell is usually funny! =)
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
I rated this flick 2-3 weeks ago..!? WHAT THE HELL happened? GOD DAMN IT!!! =(
I didn't like the flick very much.. It was actually not worth watching at all! =(
surprisingly hilarious, I wasn't expecting it to be as funny as it was and I loved Woody Harrelson, how could you not? But seriously it was funny. haha.
Even though I only gave it 2 1/2 stars, I still thought it was much better than what I expected it to be. I mean, it was still highly predictable and there were only a few funny parts, but overall it was almost refreshing that there was a comedy movie that was actually WATCHABLE that came out in the past year. So I was overall pleased with it, although it wasn't a good movie.
The Jackie Moon Superbowl commercials were far funnier than the film. If you saw the trailer, you saw the only moments worth watching.
this movie was a hell of a lot better than I thought it would be. This is truly a comeback for the comedic genius of Will Ferrel!
Backed by Andre Benjamin and Woody Harrelson this movie is absolutely hilarious!
Blades of Glory was a lot better. This was just an average movie, not so hilarious, not so original, but not so bad.
This movie was retarded and had several things wrong with the representation of the era but it was still funny.
mejor de lo que esperaba y no esperaba nada hahaha viendo lo ultimo de ferrell, pero esta guardo un poquito mas lo que en lo personal me gusta ver de el ... esta pasable.
This movie reminds me of another comedy sports movie "Major League", however not nearly as classic.
You know... a bunch of misfit athletes unite to make sports history!
There are some pretty hilarious moments spread amoungst the more frequent odd uncomfortable misfiring jokes. A mixed bag of sorts, you may just need to watch "Naked Gun" right before this to get yourself in the right state of mind.
For me this movie is better than "Blades Of Glory" but not enjoyable as "Talladega Nights".
Will Ferrell really needs to get away from these comedy sports movies, they have over stayed their welcome.

Totally waste of time and money, I don't recommend anyone see this, it's by far Farrell's worst movie. I've loved his work in the past, but this was just bad...
Also check out the semi-pro contest it's funny!
