It's the year 2020 and fire-breathing dragons have emerged to rule the earth. Mankind is at it's darkest hour. Hidden away in a castle in Northumbria are survivors that fled from London and who are led by Quinn (Christian Bale). When they come across a small band of American marines led by Van Zan (Matthew McConaughey) alliances must be made and differences must be put aside in order to save the human race. This film has all the qualities of a good Sci-Fi film, a post-apocalyptic world, dragons and the social element between the English American rivalry/brotherhood. This film is not the highest rated sci-fi film by critics and some have even considered it a cult film. Reign of Fire reminds me of one of those films that were made more in the 80's. Despite what some critics might say the film offers a great cast including Gerard Butler (Pre-300) Alice Krige and Izabella Scorupco. The dragons were remarkably life like, their presence on screen was intimidating and felt immediately. the film doesn't go over the top with effects, something that usually takes you out of a movie. I absolutely enjoyed the film and it kept me entertained. Give this film a look despite the critics rant.
FAVORITE LINE: Only one thing worse than a dragon... Americans
The only survivor is 12 year old Quinn Abercromby's (Ben Thornton) mother (Alice Krige) was chief of the construction crew that he was visiting after school.
Quinn (Christian Bale) leads a small community of survivors living in a medieval stone castle in Northumberland in 2020.
Quinn Abercromby & Alex Jensen (Izabella Scorupco) are able to lure the dragon to street level & Quinn destroys it with his own crossbow. Quinn & Alex are seen erecting a radio tower & receive a transmission from another group of survivors in France.
Notmuch to recommend it apart from some very masculine performances from Gerard Butler, Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey.
just great!! the special effects are outstanding, and the actors give A-class performances, especially gerard butler! *drools*
love his scottish accent.
Story is interesting, but the execution of the movie somehow falls flat. Good special effects and some action sequence are good, but could have added more. In the end they managed to kill the king dragon.
