Movies with one major set location (i.e Saw, Phone Booth, Cast Away) for the majority of a movie can make the audience feel claustrophobic. It's usually a safe assumption those movies don't do well because it's hard to keep the audience's attention. Wes Craven's well-known for his horror genre, and he steps down to do this chilling thriller. Rachel McAdams plays a role unlike her previous roles. She's not a drama queen like in Mean Girls, and she's not a lovestruck adolescent like in The Notebook....no here's a view of her being a damsel in distress on her character's most feared phobia...a plane ride. How horrible would it be if your seat buddy was holding your father hostage and you can't stop him and can't tell anyone on the plane? Well, in Red Eye, we get to find out how one person can try to get through that. Rachel is a growing star and it's no wonder why; She is eye candy for the boys, and talent for everyone else. She can grasp and hold the audiences attention, the minute her voice is heard and the second her face is on-screen. Cillian, while unknown to me, really shines as the antagonist and terrifies you as you hope that he'll reach his vile end by the time the credits roll. Brian Cox (X-Men 2) supports along with Jayma Mays (Epic Movie) really well and the story itself is an emotional, wild roller coaster ride.
This is one good thriller! Not too much, not too little thrilling factor but just enough for me to be at the edge of my seat throughout the second half of the movie.Rachel Mc Adams was applauding. Cillian Murphy, again, as the psycho villain, he was astounding! Really edgy, and really my cup-a-tea for a simple good guy,bad guy chase. The movie was straight forward, not a single delay on unwanted scenes and perhaps I thought the best Cillian Murphy and Rachel Mcadams' performances ever?
It was good movie, has some thrilling moments and so on, but the ending was too much like any other movie. I loved Jayma Mays role, she was so cool ^^ Cillian Murphy was scary, but he will always be for me, because of his freakishly pale eyes.. >_>
Not bad but it lacked a little something. Perhaps attachment to the "good guys". I wanted Cillian's character to win. I saw this without knowing anything about the story, and although I'm not the usual romance-film lover, the flirting parts between the two main characters were quite entertaining and I wished it had continued instead of being the unoriginal sort of hostage situation movie. Well its an OK movie.
wes craven is work as "a nightmare on elm street", "scream", "shocker", "people under the stairs" and etc.
but however wes did direct of "cursed" in 2005 in same year as this film "red eye" with rachel mcadams's character lisa resiser next with terror villian cillian murphy as jackson rippner in the airplane turn to nightmare of in dallas to miami.
While it's not gut-wrenching terror, it's a decent pic! Rachel McAdams would be a new crush if she ate a few more steaks and Cillian Murhpy is going places...just as long as he wraps a scarf around his neck and let's his hair fall down more often. That's just flat-out ridiculous looking!! The movie's got potential to get blood pumping and the finale is kinda old school Wes Craven. If I had my own video store, I'd file this under "unintential comedy". But, that's not a bad thing.
no, THIS is my favorite movie of all time, SCREW THE FREAKING DINOSOURS!! I was very good and had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next! figuring out all the secrets from Lisa's past was exciting and sad, I'd reccomend it to everyone who likes movies!
It is a very interesting thriller, but then after the plane lands then it gets kinda off beat and it looses the thrill. But overall, a very worthwhile thriller.
Red Eye doesn't offer new plot, it's predictable, yes? But what make this movie stuck as a great thriller is the thrill, the rush, the emotion and surprise!
Rachel MCAdams and Cillian are both talented and caliber actors. and add The Master of Thriller, Wes Craven.. this is a great thriller! :)
Cillian Murphy made this movie...
Casting such an adorable guy as the psycho just adds to the realism... what woman wouldn't let her guard down for Cillian... just for a sec...?
* Upon reading this review a year or so later... I can only say wtf... still a good movie, but "adorable"? what was I thinking? O_o
I was so glad to see a movie where the girl wasn't afraid to hurt the people coming after her. I hate it when the girl just sits there and does nothing.
Lisa works for a major hotel, she lives and breath work, until she has to fly our of town for her grandmothers funeral. On the way home she meets Jackson, who comes off as a nice guy. His name as he says it is Jackson Ripner(They make a joke about this in the film, that was kinda lame) So they hit it off, talking and laughing about nothing really. It all seems well, until they get onto the plane where it quicjkly spirals out of control and it was quickly. Jackson just happens to throw his plot to kill a major government official Lisas way. The catch(Which isnt much of a catch) is that the official happens to be staying at Lisas hotel. A grand scheme, this was.
Cillian Murphy as Jackson Ripner(Yes , I happen to like the name, it was a play on words) was fresh at first, but his I stop at nothing attitude quickly gets old. He begins to be a superhuman and takesa bunch of punishment from Lisa, more than any normal can take. He hoped that Lisa would be out of town. It was a crazy scheme that almost seemed impossible.
It develops at a quick and alamrming rate for Lisa, who is in way to deep. She explians at one point in the film why she hates being in hotage crisis. That speech she gave was the birghtest moment of the entire film. The Speech she gave sounded sincere and from the heart, and a lot like a real life person. But then Jackson reveals a secret. Ahh yes another catch. Thats two catches in less than one hour and 30 minutes. If Lisa does not help him, he has a man waiting to kill her father. Again not really an original catch.
This film is a thriller, that fails. Sorry for all the sopilers, but Jackson Ripner(Yes I said it again) is not a bad character, he just has flaws in development.
Not bad. Satisfying enough considering the director is Wes Craven. I remember I enjoyed it at the time, but when I think of it now I can't help but yawn.
Rachel McAdams was great as the victim and Cillian Murphy as the villain. He acted brilliantly and looked really creepy, plus he put on a really good American accent. The thing I love about Wes Craven's films is that I can watch them over and over and not get bored.
This film takes place on an aeroplane where a buisness woman (Rachel McAdams) meets a totally stranger (Cillian Murphy) whom at first she starts to like. However as the aeroplane leaves the land he becomes more mysterious and scary. He begans to narrate facts about her family , especially her father . He also tries to manipulate her , when he told her that she had to phone at the hotel she worked in so that the president that was going to spent a few days there would change his room so that his men would kill him ! If not her father would die ! A very breathtaking movie !
not too scary but good . i wouldnt want to be rachel mcadams on that plane with that creep... on the other hand ... he was very hottt..ok movin on . :p
Red Eye is a very typical suspense teen horror from the guy who brought you Scream. The main problem I had with Red Eye was the same problem I had with the Scream films. The intelligence of the characters. I understand that in a way some of the characters are purposely made to be dumb in order to create the thrilling scenes, but the things the stupid characters do is just unforgivable, down right stupid and something you just wouldn't do. The stupid character in this film is the main character played by gorgeous Rachel McAdams. Some of the things she does are just silly. All other characters are just about useless apart from Cillian Murphy's character, who actually gives a good performance. The first 40 minutes or so of the film seemed promising. I was expecting a kind of psychological thriller on a plane, but what I got was just another silly teen thriller from Wes Craven. I suppose I should've seen it coming... Don't get me wrong, I respect Craven's work as I think it's great how he builds up tension and creates thrills in his scenes, but his character development is something left to be desired. Overall, you should check out Red Eye only if you enjoyed the Scream films or if you enjoy watching pointless thrillers. Otherwise, stay clear.
