When a wealthy bachelor takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Amongst the man's sophisticated circle of friends, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. But when Elizabeth meets up with the handsome and -- it would seem -- snobbish Mr. Darcy, the battle of the sexes is joined.

I liked the story, but Keira Knightly does not make a very good Elizabeth Bennet. I prefer the mini-series staring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

The 5 Bennest sisters - including the witty, independent Elizabeth - have been raised with only one purpose in life; to find a wealthy man and marry him. When the wealthy, hard-nosed and often blunt Mr Darcy arrives in town, Elizabeth takes a general dislike towards him. However, through many mistakes of pride and indeed prejudice, Elizabeth soon begins to develop substantial feelings towards him, resulting in one of the most romantic and idealistic love stories ever told. Based on the novel by Jane Austen, 'Pride and Prejudice' manages to work on two levels; the first being a romantic, social ideal, and the second a gloriously rebellious satire of 18th century stereotypes. It's perfect for the cinematic treatment. Director Joe Wright couples imaginative shot-types, classical music and elegant period costumes to create a beautiful, sumptuous, sweeping 18th century romance. The top-notch cast of Keira Knightley, Donald Sutherland, Brenda Blethyn, Judi Dench, Rosamund Pike and Matthew MacFayden make for a superb two hours worth of drama and romance. 'Pride and Prejudice' is sure to please the avid period drama and fan, and could even sway those who are reluctant to the genre. Wonderful.

Joe Wright is the director to watch. His cinematographer does an amazing job. A beautiful take on the Jane Austen classic.

Better than I expected it to be...especially since I knew absolutely nothing about the book and didn't have much interest in seeing the movie. It's a very straightforward, sweet love story with not a lot of drama and no sex -- something very rare for romance movies today. I thought it was shot beautifully and accompanied by some very lovely piano music that was as simple and sweet as the film itself. A good film if you're having a "hopeless romantic" spell.

This is a total definition of how Pride and Prejudice have been a great factor that deprives us all to know the real meaning of true love. Elizabeth represents the image of a woman of today but again with love, the real feminine side sets out. Very cute movie.

    Excellent movie...
ride and Prejudice was an absolutely fantastic film. A great cast, and Keira Knightly did an excellent job and Matthew Macfadyen was a wonderful in the role of Mr Darcy. The cinematography was so ridiculously good, there were some fantastic shots and the costumes were also fantastic. The script was fairly good, it is true to the classic by Jane Austen.
    I really like this movie.

The book is wonderful and surprisingly, so is this film. Joe Wright captures easily and effortlessly the magic of the story. Keira Knightly surpassed my expectations as Lizzy Bennett and Matthew McFaydden is the perfect Darcy. With his mysterious aura, his cockiness, and his vulnerability.

The romance and the tension between Darcy and Lizzy is palpable. McFayden and Knightly do a tremendous job together.

The rest of the cast is amazing. Specially the underrated Donald Sutherland, who gives a subtle but powerful performance as Mr. Bennett.

Please dont pay a lot of attention to this review, because I watched this movie with a bunch of girlfriends and we spent a lot of the movie just talking about the guys. So I cant give a honest judgement on the movie itself. From what I could tell it was alright though.

I know everyone just screams about the BBC one, but I really enjoyed this one so much more. It took Austen's power and transformed that into emotions that are applicable today.

Adorable film,Knightley shines in the casualty of her character and Wright achieves where Atonement was overblown with glamour, the supporting cast is remarkably well-chosen..Austen would approve.

One of my favourite movies and one of the best adaptations of Jane Austen's book so far: the 1940 movie starring Laurence Olivier is also very good but it's not faithful to the book at all. The BBC version is very good as well, but the acting here is just excellent, and the last scene is one of the most romantic I've ever seen

Mr. & Mrs. Bennet (Donald Sutherland & Brenda Blethyn) & their five daughters - Jane (Rosamund Pike), Elizabeth (Lizzy) (Keira Knightley), Mary (Talulah Riley), Kitty (Catherine) (Carey Mulligan), & Lydia (Jena Malone). Elizabeth is convinced will never marry unless she is compelled by true love. A wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley (Simon Woods) is enchanted with the gentle and beautiful Jane. Elizabeth is accidentally run into Mr. Dracy (Matthew MacFadyen) invites her & the Gardiners to meet his sister; Georgiana (Tamzin Merchant). Elizabeth assures her father her love for Darcy are newlywed.

The latest adaptation of Jane's Austen classic novel 'Pride And Prejudice', telling the love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy. Excellent Keira Knightley's acting (not meaning others did bad, of course!); I underestimated it and considered 'normal' before seeing the previous adaptation... New Lizzie is independent, clever and she could be as well a modern girl. Of course, the story is awfully predictable, but if you just want to relax and improve your mood, here's something you should see.

Not as good as the BBC-version, but great soundtrack and well-chosen male leading role.
Judi Dench is also amazing as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
Sadly the movie is way too short to present the meanig of the novel and its complex relationships.
It is rather many different scenes glued together, rather than a smooth movie, which makes sense.
If the viewer hasn't read the novel, it is impossible to understand the events happening in this flick.
Keira Knightley doesn't fulfil the actual Elizabeth Bennet. Not being a beauty and a woman of her time, she appears an insolent, ignorant girl, rather than extraordinarily intelligent, witted and pretty.
Caroline Bingley is only a hard-hearted, selfish woman, rather than the average upper-class girl, who is at fault as well.
Mr. Wickham idoesn't meet the picture of a naughty man Jane Austen had.
Charlotte Lucas is shown as a stupid, desperate woman, rather than a relaistic, clever one.
Mr. Bennet is not a typical father and husband of his time and not like he is supposed to be, as shown in the novel.
Jane and Mrs. Bennet are actually as they are in the book.

I didn't read the novel however I've found the story wonderfull . It is a love story that is built up between two different people form different social classes ! It is ever so romantic when he express his feelings towards her in the rain , however she doesn't accept them ! The story ends in a very different way as they are together !

This is one of the best novel-to-film adaptions I have ever had the pleasure to watch. The music all the way through sets a beautiful tone. Along with the wonderful acting of Keira Knightley as Miss Elizabeth Bennet, and Matthew MacFadyen as the brilliant Mr. Fitswilliam Darcy. You will never say Collin Firth is Mr. Darcy again. Matthew MacFayden captures him, 'body and soul'.

With only slight changes from the novel, the flow and elegance of this love is story is one for the agers.

I recommmend it to anyone who loves a beautiful story of two people drawn together. Also if you love the film I strongly persuade you to read the book.

I just love this movie like all of you and I do agree about the comment when Mr. Darcy flexed his hand after touching Elizabeths hand it's just so romantic and also the look of surprise on her face when he touches her hand. But my favorite scene is when he first tells Elizabeth that he loves her out in that beautiful country side and the rain it's just breathtaking...

Stories like this make me obsessed about romance. The film is as beautiful as I thought it would be. The chemistry among the actors is fantastic, the characters are so amusing. I'm now a oficial fan of Jane Austen's work. Wright did a great job in the cast, I can't think of anyone else doing Lizzie and Darcy.
    LOVED IT!
