Ok I dont know why anyone would want to make a movie as stupid and pointless as this..Yes it is interesting what he does to make the perfume etc but..This guy gets eaten because he makes a perfume made out of females??? Very sick if you ask me..I watched it with my mum and we were like Um ok!!.

I was glad to finally watch it! It was gdddd. :D Okay, no scratch that. I loved it. I liked the ending- unpredictable; you kind of go like 'what?!' lol but it fits perfectly well with the whole obsession-morbid thing that goes on along the movie. And I gotta say, although it's so weird, some scenes are hauntingly beautiful in their own way.

One of the most interesting movies with the most strangest ending I had ever seen. You MUST catch this if you haven't. Unique story with an edge of contemporary fantasy, a very dark psychological theme driven in all manner of poetry laced in between, excellent cast, great camera shots, and a gorgeous soundtrack. A masterpiece, like everyone else has said --- Highly recommended movie. I'm off to hunt for the book.

I loved this movie. The character of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is one that makes you both pity him and be disgusted in him. I love the fact that the movie can make you feel weird if you AREN'T on the side of the killer, and with his character it's so easy. The ending was awesome, very well done. It makes me want to read the novel.
Everyone has to watch it at some point in their life!!!

We are all familiar with the book 'Das Parfum', by Patrick Süskind. I am sure if you've read it as I have, you'd be disappointed by the amounts the film leaves out, despite it's running time of 140 minutes.

The scenery is really beautiful, but the long shots and prolonged scenes get tiresome towards the end. In my opinion, it would have been better to add some of the things they left out, and cut the lengths of the unnecessarily drawn - out pieces.

Ben Whishaw is exceptional, even though Grenouille is not the most loquacious man. John Hurt is an excellent narrator, but he does speak very softly sometimes. A minor fault, really.

Grenouille is the ideal antihero. Strangely attractive (although in the book he is not), enigmatic and not fully understandable. You'll fall in love with him.

I read the book and it was way better than the movie. One of my favorite books ever. Therefore, I am happy I read it before seeing this, even tho it was pretty good.

Antoine Richis: Why did you kill my daughter?
Jean-Baptiste Grenouille: I just needed her.

Wonderful, for someone who hasn't read the book and very bad for someone who has, because it wasn't in the least bit as good as the book. I liked it but it could have been better.

Dark and disturbing, but a very good movie! Told as a fairy-tale, this movie is brilliantly done. About a man with an impeccable sense of smell and goes on, to try, to find the most perfect fragrance. This movie was done very well and I highly recommend it!

This Film is AWESOME and SO strange. It keeps changing genre throughout and yet all fits together in the end. Not for the weak of heart, it has some very graphic scenes in it, and yet is not a gore fest. I recomend it to anyone who enjoys visual and interesting stories that don't leave you with a completely neat message. You have to work to find what you will take from this movie.

The book is difficult to adapt, but Tykwer was successful. If only Süskind had allowed Kubrick to make this one...

The only reason this movie didn't get 5 stars was because it was a bit slow and had some pacing issues with it. Other than that the film was awesome and very original. A story based around the drive of smell and how the main characters obsession with capturing smell led him to murder was too great to pass up. The scenery and costume design is top notch and the narration was great. This movie has one of the greatest and craziest endings I have ever seen and I won't even say what it involves, because no one would believe me if i did. So check out this cool period drama about murder, obsession, and the quest to create not only the greatest perfume known to man but the greatest thing any one has had the privilege of smelling.

France, especially Paris, in the 18th century sure looked like a terribly smelly place: the roads were muddy full of filth, the people looked horribly smelly from lack of hygiene. But this is the background set for the film 'Perfume: The Story of A Murderer'. It's ironic but maybe that is why perfumes were so important - to cover those stench.

Jean Baptiste was an orphan with tragic life - he was poor, left for dead among rubbish and had to experience a really hard life. Yet he had a gift, an extraordinary olfactory sense which made him a great perfumer. Brilliant but also somewhat autistic, he had the make of a serial killer. Strangely, since he was young, deaths had followed his footsteps, including when he was obsessively trying to find the ultimate perfume.

The setting of the film - dark, gloomy and filthy cities contrasted with the sunny, colourful and beautiful countryside - is excellent. The acting is also good - Ben Wishaw played Jean Baptiste, the socially challenged young man, brilliantly - you pity him and hate him at the same time. Dustin Hoffman played Jean Baptiste's mentor Baldini and Alan Rickman played the father of a murdered girl, both gave convincing performances. The story is gripping, definitely worth watching.
