I really (really) like Ralph Fiennes and he is wonderful in this as is Liv Tyler - just perfection. This was directed by Ralph's wife Martha and the script is lifted from Aleksandr Pushkin's sonnet of love and tragedy. It was beautifully cast, beautifully filmed, however - just wasn't enough substance to this. The dialoge itself was there, but minimal and there are long moments between when the picture is telling the story more than the words, especially the second half of the movie - which is fine (I suppose) but it was so sedate at times it nearly lulled me to sleep. But it's beautiful visually and a lovely old tale of a love that cannot be had.
Oh, I really loved this movie, even with it's strange ending - I think that's what set it apart from the other movies I watch. Lets face it, in usual films, them man and woman would of found a way to be together, they would of loved eachother inspite of everything, but these parted ways at the end: she stayed true, and he, respectfully, left her.
A strange contrast to other films and I still try to find if it's really a tragity or maybe a greater love story then you would think.
Considering the acting talent, this movie was a flat-out dud. Not only slow, but dull. That's what you get when you let your wife direct you. Hear that Ralph Fiennes?
Really great movie...also sad that it took him so long to realize he did indeed love her...too bad it was too late! Got to love Ralph Fiennes though!
this story has been wrote as a play poem by a russian poet alxander pushkin in 1830.
sad, miserable eugen character represents the despired pushkin at that time while he was fored to be away by the goverment.
this had been taken from pushkin's emotional life..
pushkin , as a man, was the victum of love in his life..sometimes he get surprised that happiness could come to his miserrable life!
the tragedy of the story febricates when oegin forced to shut his dear friend.. and he kill him by false pointing of the pistole. eugen refuses tatyana's love as a believe from him that he didnt greate for love and marriage ,but when he realize that he's in love with her..it was too late!
This board looks lonely. Be the first to talk about "Onegin" !
