Perhaps dishonest. It's considerably different from the more virile and boorish book. But, it works on its own terms and may be more relevant than ever in our political culture.
Jack Nicholson's finest hour on a timeline full of them. Utterly convincing, inspiring, heartbreaking story told with conviction, humanity, and doses of humor.
One of the very few truely fantastic movies out there. Nicholson plays what he does best, but in a very different way. Its easy to see why this film has survived the years ever since its creation.
A true classic! If you are unmoved in any way after watching this film, i would have to question your humanity. A thought provoking and often funny and endearing film, with a stellar cast. Maybe one of the reasons I work in mental health today.
Yes, yes, yes, Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher are great, whatever. What truly surprised was how amazing the supporting performances are! Absolutely everyone gives a performance best in this movie (by the way, I never realized that was Danny DeVito). As for the movie itself, I liked it, I laughed with it, I enjoyed it, but I was never moved or fully inmersed in the plot or the going-ons.
Even after reading the book i still have a great appreciation for this film. They were able to put the majority of information from the book into the movie without loosing it's esence. And no one could have done a better job at playing R. P. McMurphy than Jack Nicholson.
Not only do I love this movie, but I work on the set! Yes, its true - I work in the actual hospital where they filmed the Cuckoo's Nest - they are talking about tearing it down and building a new hospital, but for now its still standing!
Love this film so real and hard-hitting. Perfect casting too the whole film is absolutely faultless.. plus the chief is great!
