William Thacker (Hugh Grant) is the owner of an independent bookstore in Notting Hill that specializes in travel writing. William encounters world-famous Hollywood actress Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) during her trip to London to purchase the books. William does get to talk to Anna to invite her to his sister Honey's birthday party. Anna invites William back to her hotel room to find her American boyfriend, Jeff King (Alec Baldwin) is already there when they're broke up so, William decides to leave. Anna arrives @ William doorsteps in need a place to stay. William & his friends Max are searching for Anna races across London just before she leaves for the United States to persuade her to stay in England with him so, Anna & William got married.
Richard Curtis? series of Brit Flick films really for me give an international stage for the best of gentle British humour. Notting Hill must be one of my most quoted films and never fails to make me smile.
It tells the story of William Thacker (Hugh Grant), a travel book shop owner who lives on Notting Hill with his insane Welsh housemate. One day, he is on the coffee run and happens to spill orange juice over Anna (Julia Roberts), a hugely famous film star; the fictional equivalent of, well, Julia Roberts! From then on launches the tangled love story of an ordinary English guy and an international film star both of whom live a life that the other cannot possibly imagine.
The two, though compatible, seem destined never be together and things do go awry but as we expect in the end true love triumphs!
This is accompanied by a great supporting cast; Rhys Infans, Gina McKee and Hugh Bonnington to name but a few and a wonderfully upbeat, varied and classic soundtrack combine to create a magic British chick flick.
Love it! I like the "surreal but nice" anecdote cause I would say the situation is bizarre yet nice in many ways., This film makes me admire Julia Roberts better.., She did a great job..,
who could forget the famous line this movie popularized?? "im just a girl, standing infront of a boy, waiting for him to love me.." this is soulfully romantic! julia roberts and hugh grant played their characters well. :)
an unexpected sweet movie about the memorable encounters between unlikely people. but try to ignore lude humor by supporting actor if you offend easily.
coincidence sometimes happen in real life, but when comes it would be once in lifetime.
pretty good romantic comedy movie, it's one of my favorites ever.
I like to watch over and over again .. one of the best roles of Hugh Grant & Julia Roberts .
A very smart romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts & Hugh Grant. This film centers on a movie star (Roberts) that is in London. While there she meets a Londoner (Grant) whom both fall for one another....they both try to see if both of the worlds can make it together.
I used 2 hate this movie when i was a kid cause i hates Hugh Grant, his acting is really crap! But since last time ive saw it, it was okay movie but still. Hugh Grant, i cant even stand him!
For a long time this was my favouret movie. It isnt any more (simply because i didnt used to watch alot of movies) but it's definatly still up there and is possibly (but definatly debatably) the greatest ever appearence Hugh Grant has made. However im sure die hard fans of four weddings and a funeral as well as Love actually amongst many others would disagree.
one of the best movies of julia.she's done a brilliant job.the movie is romantically hilarious and feels good to watch.hugh grant and the others have done an awesome job too."spikey", thacker's weird roomie is too good!
Anna Scott the worlds most famous movie star. Her pictures has been plastered on the cover of every magazine, and every time she makes a move, the entire world knows about it. William Thacker owns a travel bookstore. His business is stagnant, he has the roomate from hell, and since his divorce, his love life is completely non existent. for both, something or someone seems to be missing. And when Anna and Williams paths unexpectedly cross in the eclectric neighborhood of Notting Hill, romance is the last thing on their minds.
When a simple bookstore owner meets the world's most adored actress, he learns that being with the world's most wanted woman is not as easy as it seems. A lovely little romance. I love Julia!
Hugh Grant is great, but I really can't stand Julia Roberts. She's said to be one of the best actresses of the time, but I think she's crap and has about as much emotion as my toenail.
the movie is fantastic.julia's a real beauty and the romantic story is a l'll fantasy but it's sweet and pleasure to watch the movie and the "i'm just a girl..."dialogue is gr8..
A sober story of a english man and an hollywood actress. They meet accidently, fall in love naturally, until misunderstanding wrecks the fun. And finally the triumph of love!! Awesome portrayal of all characters by the actors.
Surely won't dissapoint.
SURREAL BUT NICE!!!
one of my favorites...there's just something about the movie i just like...maybe it's the unlikelihood of them ever meeting in real life or the last parts of the movie
This is basically a Romantic Classic. It's not so sappy that it makes the romance unbelievable, but it's sweet enough that it's charming and touching without being cliche.
