i was really looking forward to seeing this. i pre-ordered the dvd... waited for ages anticipating how great it would be. the first thing i noticed was how historically incorrect it was. i realise not alot is known about the life of temujin yet what is known was twisted/changed or totally taken out of context by the russian writer/director. it was put to the audience as if every motive he had for attacking an emeny was due to revenge... just adding fuel to the fire of the barbarian notion. not that perhaps he was quite wise and attacked enemies for strategic reasons or political reasons. do you really build an empire on feelings? some of it was accurate about how he was loyal and loved those who were loyal to him but it is not a love story which is what bodrov made it. how many times was temujin captured in this film? it happened once. ONCE! also in the 2nd half of the film he became a slave of the chinese tanguts??? that was half an hour of complete made up bollocks. it also forgot to mention that temujim killed a half brother in cold blood at quite an early age. the film seemed all mixed up with what happened at what age. all i could do was pick faults with it as there was so much wrong. the film does not paint an accurate picture of the great leader of the mongols. the other thing that bothered me about the film, apart from incorrectness, making it into a soppy love story and making temujin seem like a complete pansy was that some scenes almost seemed as if they'd been edited badly and cut so there were huge gaps in the made up story or huge gaps in a battle sequence. i hope one day a good film about genghis khan will be made. this isn't it. this is a russian director who while growing up in russia was probably taught in school that the mongols were murderers and rapists and then found out it was a bit different when looking into it himself... so tried painting temujin as some romantic heroic figure, going from one extreme to the other and trying desperately to make him seem a nicer all round fellow than he actually was. he was ruthless and clever but fair. i dread to think what mongolian people think about this film

Prvih uru vremena smo se ja i dragi natjerali da pogledamo do te minutaze, a onda smo odustali.. Dosadno, predvidljivo...
Mongol is the beginnings of Genghis Khan, a great teaser for the sequels I can taste already. I have only heard how brutal Genghis Khan was but this film shows in fact he was a boy and a man driven by love. Making me want to read more on this part of history. The sounds and visuals in the fight scenes are incredible. The cinematography, acting and music had my attention.
a long, continous, hoomei <3 mongolian eyelids, wonderful children with wonderful red cheeks, steppe, tadanobu asano as you've never seen him before (just kidding, he seems to go only for characters with terrifying slovenly outer face ahah) war! war with blood, eventually! <3 and LOVE for their husbandxwife relationship
