Plot: A husband and wife find themselves involved in a murder mystery.
It's been a while since I watched this and though I was quite young I thoroughly enjoyed it. Makes me want to check more of Allen's work.
There are a few funny moments but the dialogs are among the worst I've seen in a Woody Allen piece. The biggest problem, however, is that it builds up something that it can't keep. I was just waiting for a clever explanation but it never came. Further on, the main characters were really stupid and annoying which made it hard to watch.
Great to see Diane Keaton back with Allen again. Hilarious movie from start to finish and one not to be missed.
The funniest movie since Annie Hall? That's kinda sad. Didn't find it as funny as Annie Hall or as good, but it's not a bad watch.
Suspenseful and thrilling with an awesome and fun script, but with the same cute and intelligent touch you can find in every Woddy Allen film.
83/100
has some funny moments..very funy..nice mystery, movie keeps you invovled in the outcome and another fine acting performance from the duo of allen/keaton
Manhattan Murder Mystery is witty as hell, with loads of comic dialogues right between a murder mystery which is Hitchcockesque it was a pretty funny ride and a very enjoyable one that too. Unique flick.
A clever, suspenseful and inventive little comedy. It takes a while to get going but once it does, the comedy is worth it. The murder mystery plot is the device in which Allen explores a married couple who are beginning to become stagnant. Allen pays tribute to both Hitchcock and Welles. It's also great to see him back together with Diane Keaton.
Very good lines! What about the scene of the phone call with the recorded voice?! eheheheheheh!! Diane Keaton will always be the partner of Allen that I prefer!
I haven?t seen a Woody Allen movie in a long time, and this was a really pleasant experience. The film is definitely in the upper 25% of Allen?s films, a tight Rear Window style murder plot with a really nice script filled with good Allen dialogue. Allen, Keaton, Alda, and Huston make a really good ensemble; keep your eyes peeled for a very young Zach Braff. Also one of the best Allen lines ever: ?I can't listen to that much Wagner, ya know? I start to get the urge to conquer Poland.?
A decent little film. A light-hearted exploration of a couple's stalling relationship revived by a murder. Only made to take his mind off the Mia Farrow lawsuit.
now THIS is allens worst. sooo not funny. i dont care for mystery shit, anjie was the only smart one. diane was so old and ugly. poor dear. ok ever see hitchcocks Rear Window? its so much like that. this is not a woody allen piece, too lame.
8/10
An instant new favorite of mine. I absolutely loved every minute of this film. One of the most fun, easy going, and entertaining movies I've seen in years. Not since my last encounter with Hitchcock (whom is very present in this film), The Lady Vanishes, have I laughed so hysterically just seconds after and before genuine suspense. A riotous tape recorder scene in particular had me laughing quite a bit.
While watching the film I was almost certain the payoff and solution to the titular "murder mystery" was going to be a disappointment. Very few thrillers besides those of the master of suspense ever provide a satisfying conclusion. But Allen, with his humor always "on," here gives us an effortless, at times hilarious, near-perfect ending. He even throws in a stunning mirrored Orson Welles homage and a happy ending that's not sappy, tying up all the right loose ends.
Even with his smaller, more "entertaining" films such as this one, in my book Allen can do no wrong.
enjoyed the first 3/4 of this while the investigation was going on. the revelation didn't live up to the build up. happy to see Diane Keaton teaming up with Woody Allen again, as i think she works much better with him than Mia Farrow ever did. not up there with his best but still worth watching just for the dialogue. it's worth it just to see Zach Braff and the terrified look on his face in his first film role.
Woody Allen's unabashed tribute to Bob Hope movies. I love the movies he's honoring, and I like this film.
It's not the best Woody Allen film but is a very entertaining comedy-mystery. Allen is at his nebbish best while Diane Keaton is not as grating as she has been in her last few films. Allen definitely shines as he tries to keep his wife from getting into too much trouble investigating the mysterious death of one of their neighbors.
A great example of how Woody Allen can do more than "just" romatic neurotic comedies. This starts as such, but ends with a terrific and suspenseful murder mystery. Portends of Matchpoint more than a decade before he "branches out."
My life is passing before my eyes. The worst part about it is that I'm driving a used car." L'intrigue nous tient en haleine et les dialogues sont savoureux. Selon moi une perle oubliée dans la filmographie de Woody Allen. Le fait que le DVD coûte aux alentours de 35-40$ ne doit pas aider...
What can be more fun than being with Woody Allen "on a caper"? Felt like I was with them thorugh-out the film. Wonderful cast with Woody's favorite backdrop - New York City & great jazz music. I enjoyed the direction of this film as much as the story itself. Why oh WHY must Diane Keyton insist on turning her collar up on her blouses and wearing the waistline of her pants all the way up to her neck?! Been doing that for 30 yrs now. That aside, this was a most wonderful example of Woody Allen's best.
I had never seena Woody Allen film until I watched this, it is absolutely hilarious, the way the film is done is very clever, it feels like they aren't acting for the camera but are making it up as they go along, very good film.
allen in a different shape but as good as usual. allen surprised me very much. diane keaton is great again.
This comedy/thriller )but more of a comedy) by Woody Allen is great fun. Woody is great as the neurotic editor. The man is a genious. Not only did he starr in this film, he also wrote and directed it (as all his movies).
