''Listen. Since I've met you I've nearly been incinerated, drowned, shot at, and chopped into fish bait. We're caught in the middle of something sinister here, my guess is dad found out more than he was looking for and until I'm sure, I'm going to continue to do things the way I think they should be done.''
''Archaeology is the search for fact... not truth. If it's truth you're looking for, Dr. Tyree's philosophy class is right down the hall.''
''He chose...poorly.''
When Dr. Henry Jones Sr. suddenly goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, eminent archaeologist Indiana Jones must follow in his father's footsteps and stop the Nazis.
The third installment of Indiana Jones and it's a pleasure going back to it's creative roots like the first film, makes you fall in love with Indy all over again afresh.
Harrison Ford: Indiana Jones has the charm and heroism of the previous two installments.
Sean Connery: Professor Henry Jones, inspired casting who could be more fitting to play Indy's father than legendary Connery. He gives the film a huge boost.
Denholm Elliott: Dr. Marcus Brody, another jovial character who offers humour. Love the bit where he say the pen is mightier than the sword in the tank with Connery.
Alison Doody: Dr. Elsa Schneider, the femme fatale and risky love interest of Jones.
John Rhys-Davies: Sallah A character welcome back after Raiders
This is my personal fave of the trilogy, it has some memorable scenes and the plot is one i can relate to that revolves round the Holy Grail and the cup of life. Loved the bike chase, the frantic tank scene, the tests at the end. Of course the beginning start with the prelude featuring River Phoenix is inspiring and compelling start to the movie.
Music Top notch again bow John Williams.
Plot spot on, cast without fault and an adventure that is fun and unforgettable.
Steven Spielberg & George Lucas have emulated that classic formula that was lost since Raiders and given us this timeless third film in the trilogy.
I liked the use of the library as a location/source of mystery. I liked the femme fatale character. I thought the action and plot of this one was closer to a James Bond movie, and who was right there next to Indy for the adventure, the original Bond. Clever! Having Indy bump into Hitler was too silly, but the challenges to find the grail more than made up for it.
My favorite of the Indiana Jones movies. This deals with the holy grail, and the relationship between a father and a son.
Raking in past popular traits and infusing them with even more of the same is always a safe bet, and The Last Crusade incorporates this philiosophy very well by giving the audience what made the other Indiana James films so enjoyable. But, what sets this film apart is that it allows itself to take in a new setting and a new atmosphere as the humour, action, settings, and characters are taken to different levels. What makes this film so outrageously enjoyable, apart from the action (which is a given in this trilogy), is the interplay and banter between Ford and Connery (as Son and Father) as they escape, and chase, the perils of this film in a story and script that hearkens back to the sharpness of Raider of the Lost Ark. But, is this the best of the trilogy? Bet your life it isn't; it avoids the tight-knit calamity of Raiders, but comes out on top of the extravaganza present in Temple of Doom. The subtelties, really, are the only things that minorly drag this film down - coming in the form of whizzing pacing at the wrong points and some predicatble turns. As a whole however, this film has solidified the Indiana Jones trilogy as one of the greatest of all time, a rounded feat that not even Star Wars can topple.
The only Indiana Jones movie that I will watch. I loved this one.
The third installment of the Indiana Jones story sees Dr. Jones in search of his father who disappeared while searching for the Holy Grail. Spielberg obviously learned from his mistakes of the previous film, and recaptures the spirit of the original. The film opens with a fun comic strip origin story featuring River Phoenix and once again religious myth, which is so ingrained in the popular consciousness it rarely fails to engage the necessary sense of wonder, forms the premise of the story. He replaces the irritating sidekicks with affable buffoons Marcus Brody and Sallah who return from the first film and Alison Doody spends her 15 minutes of fame as a kind of glamorous 30s Bond girl. But most importantly of all we get to meet Henry Jones Sr. Sean Connery was an inspired casting choice and Ford and Connery's brilliant father-son bickering is hilarious, especially during the best section of the film as Indiana rescues his dad from the clutches of the evil Nazis, the natural enemies of our heroes. It suffers for separating the Jones boys during the final act but otherwise, Spielberg once again proves he is a master when it comes to popular entertainment.
Anyone noticed that Donovan started to look like Christopher Lloyd at the end of this movie before he died?
