Plot:
Since arriving in New York City’s folk music scene in the 1960s, American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has become a major figure in popular music, influencing millions with his chart topping songs. Hi...( read more

The main problem with I´M NOT THERE is thattha movie only works for Bob Dylan fans or people who likes his music, becuase someone like me an ignorant, wouldn´t like this film.
I´M NOT THERE has an amazing cast, is good to see Christian Bale and Heath Ledger together in a film again, their performances are good but Cate Blanchett is AMAZING!!!.
The story is good but so boring at times.
I would only recommend this film only if you are a fan aof Bob Dylan or if you like his music, but if that´s not your case you may boring.
Okay so I thought this movie was going to sweep me off my feet and take me out of this world... truth is, it didn't. It's not as amazing as I thought it was gonna be, but still it's a good movie. The cast is unbelivable and the acting is brilliant, mostly from Cate Blanchet and Heath Ledger, their performances are superior to the other ones, they showed a depth much more impressive than that of the others. Blanchet's scenes are probably the best ones, and the way they were shown in black and white made them even more interesting. Ledger's scenes were the most human in my opinion, really memorable and simple yet complicated at the same time. The dialogues on this movie are sick, they irony and sarcasm of each and every part of Dylan is superb. Even though it didn't give me what I wanted it still gave off the strenght of Dylan as a polifacetic being. The whole idea of making different fascets of the same character is simply genius and because of that I have to praise this. True, the movie is a little slow but it stil definitely worth it! Dylan's music is all over the film and that alone makes it a treat, mix that with fantastic acting, a brilliant idea and excellent directing, and you get this impressive portrait of eras and personas.
I've watched too many biopics that bore me, so "I'm Not There" was refreshing and outstanding. Regardless of your interest for Bob Dylan, this is a great film, an original experiment in storytelling that the director pulls off grandly. It gets a little TOO confusing every now and then, and sometimes making a connection to Dylan's life is hard for those of us who are not hardcore fans. However, it will always keep you engaged, thanks to excellent (truly) acting and, of course, good music (a bit too much, in my opinion, but after all, it's a film about a musician). The film also counts with impressive cinematography in all the narrative strands (both in color and B&W), making the story not depend solely on dialog but also on visuals. An exciting, formidable picture; it should be an example for the next biopics, but I know I'll keep seeing "A Beautiful Mind" over and over. Lately, there has been a trend to make them differently: "Control", "La Vie en Rose"...perhaps -hopefully- some of this will get to mainstream Hollywood movies.
okay.. I liked this movie a lot, not because I know anythink about dylan, but it was pretty intresting and with a great cast. I saw it without translation so I didn't get everything, but still a very well made movie.
The only "Dylan" of the pack is Cate Blanchett. The other actors only tried to copy some maneurisms. An OK bio, but not enough for a genius like Dylan.
It's great, and the most original and fitting Biopic I believe I've ever seen, but the hokey references to lyrics in the dialogue turned me off in some places.
An interesting movie that is original and has a talented cast but it is a bit long and a little bit hard to follow, especially in the beginning of the film. Cate Blanchett delivers a stunning performance.
knowing a lot about dylan helps to appreciate this movie, combien that with ym admiration for cate blanchett and i thought it was quite good.
Brilliant. Don't expect a literal biog of Dylan, but it's great. The more you know of Dylan, the more you'll get it. The casting of Cate Blanchett was inspired.
This movie may not be for people that need an exact ending on their movie and don't want to think. It is a different way to story tell and I enjoy it. After it was over I started to get the movie further. Also a character description on the dvd did help some as well.
I found myself liking parts of this film but not the whole. I thought Cate Blanchett was ok but not great.
abstracted storyline, great cast, an even greater soundtrack, loved every minute of watching this movie
I accept that at some point I got bored, but maybe that's just me. I applaude the very original and interesting way of telling Dylan story, and each actor was great at their parts.
It's definetely worth watching, but not if you're feeling sleepy
I am going to be honest I don't know anything about Bob Dylan. I thought this would be a good introduction since I have been wanting to listen to his music. This film probably made sense to people who know facts and the general history of Dylan, but I just couldn't get into it. I found myself laughing during the film. Somehow it felt like a spoof, something Saturday Night Live would piece together. It didn't feel real. This is no fault of the actors who portray him, it's they way the story doesn't flow or explain things that are going on. I did enjoy the music in the film and that is about the only thing I enjoyied.
VANCOUVER REVIEW:
There is no end to how weird this film is! I enjoyed Heath Ledger and I liked Cate's Oscar preformance even more! I think basiclly what they did was say "OK so no one knows Bob Dylan's real story let's just do a bunch of them and hope we get one right !"
This was really interesting, with the 6 different actors that each played a side of Bob Dylan. But it was really well done and I loved the way it was captured with different colors and lightings and problems. All the actors did an amazing job.
Should be called "I'm not interesting". Not sure why this is so highly rated, extremely self indulgent and exceptionally boring. Plenty of great movies about artists such as Ray, Beyond the Sea, Walk the Line. In all honesty don't bother!!
kind of a nice concept having a couple of diffrent characters to portray one individual, but i dont really know why but it was not for me.. i think its a good movie becasue of its content, but i dont enjoy it :/
This movie is really exciting and original. It is a biopic that avoids the cliches, a sophisticated biopic. The acting was sensational, all 6 actors gave their best, but I think that the performance of Cate Blanchett is overrated because she's playing a man, Christian Bale and Ben Whishaw impressed me much more.
Also a little portentous, but it masterfly evokes all the facets of Bob Dylan's crazy life-- at least more accurately and excitingly than any biopic I've seen in recent year
Todd Haynes' "I'm Not There." is the most curious cinematic experiment in many a moon. His follow-up to his 2002 masterpiece "Far from Heaven" is a stylish, bizarre look at the many lives and personalities of Bob Dylan. The film employs 6 actors (Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Richard Gere, Ben Whishaw, Marcus Carl Franklin - a little black boy, and Cate Blanchett, one of our best actresses) to portray one of the most influential and fascinatingly enigmatic musical figures of the 20th century. The film this most reminded me of in an odd way was Todd Solondz's "Palindromes" (2005), which gave us 8 different actors to play a 13 year old pregnant girl in various scenarios involving the potential for abortion. This is quite a fascinating exercise in cinematic investigation, with Cate Blanchett making the biggest impression as the sort of androgynous curly-haired Dylan of the electric era. Very well-done.
Such a fantastic movie! I loved it! It was brilliant! All of them did a marvelous job as Bob Dylan and the movie really got me interested in his music. Oh, and Cate Blanchet was really hot in the movie (^_-, lol)
I didn't understand that film at all. I agree that Cate Blanchett did terrific job and that it's an exceptional film, but but but still, I didn't buy it.
This was an interesting film. I liked how multiple actors portrayed Dylan. I was most impressed by the ways Heath Ledger and Richard Gere played as Dylan, they were all good though, I think. All in all, good film I think.
