It was a bit slow untill the last 30 minutes or so. I don´t know if I like how they solwed fourlegs/twolegs problem with the werewolf or not
Fantastic. Just love Harry Potter. Brilliant Gary Oldman, David Thewlis and Alan Rickman. One of the best Potter movies.
Third film in the franchise, pushing along through the third year at Hogwarts and sees the additon - and subsequent subtraction - of Professor Lupin, who has a bit of a problem with full moons. Also sees the debut of Michael Gambon as Dumbledore and the incredible Gary Oldman, who plays Sirius Black, a guy who has seemingly gone a little nutty from being locked up too long after being falsely accused of turning on Harry's father. However he knows who really did it and flies away at the end to continue our advnetures into Year Four.
In my opinion, the director of this film had the wrong idea, this isn't an art film or a drama, this is a fantasy adventure movie. There were many useless shots and the ending isn't right. Then there's that part where they time travel, which makes the movie seem longer than it should be. This movie isn't a total loss, it's just so-so.
Just because its a Harry Potter movie doesn't necessarily mean that its going to be entertaining. Director Alfonso Cuaron made all the magic disappear.
well this one is another hit, although it's kinda boring at some points, i say you should watch it to keep in track with the story.
Were it not for the fact that he inflicted Bicentennial Man upon an unsuspecting public, it would be possible to feel some sympathy for Chris Columbus right now. A faithful servant of the material, Columbus cracked the brief, creating both Potter's world and a worldwide audience. He could, perhaps, have cut loose with Secrets, but one hit does not a franchise make, and he again opted for an artistic yardstick that merely measured how many pages could be faithfully recreated on screen before audience arses actually started to turn blue.
Now, with the Potter machine in unstoppable gear and even St. Rowling acknowledging that the later/longer books must be boned, Columbus might have finally started to enjoy himself. And yet, not only has he stepped aside, as producer he personally pushes through an exotic relief pitcher whose colourful CV virtually guarantees that every viewer will be aware of a fresh man at the mound and that every review will contain a variation on the following line: New director Cuaron injects much needed visual flair and introduces a narrative daring that was noticeably lacking from 'the Columbus era'.
Indeed, Cuaron so comprehensively re-imagines the Potter aesthetic that young fans are likely to wonder where all the colour has gone. From the moment the perfunctory Dursley scenes are invested with a beige-tinted suburban loathing straight out of Mike Leigh, it is clear that the magical kingdom has at last been rooted in our very own Muggle nation. Hogwarts, in particular, benefits enormously from a relocation to Scotland's Glen Coe.
Relying as much on wide-angle lenses as he does on computer-controlled tracking, Cuaron keeps the camera moving and the invention coming, unafraid to introduce ideas that Rowling has not personally authored. The entire piece is an absolute picture, with new cinematographer Michael Seresin working his own strange alchemy on Stuart Craig's miraculous sets.
Not that Cuaron has it all his own way. The young cast is still rather limited to good line-readings - they are not bad, exactly, but they are being asked to shoulder an increasingly heavy burden and the tantalising glimpses of the excellent Thewlis and Oldman amply demonstrate that expositional dialogue need not be entirely bereft of character.
Elsewhere, the all-plot-all-the-time novels remain curiously resistant to adaptation, and if house writer Kloves has mercifully abandoned the novel's three-term structure, he is yet to stumble across a recognisable three-act structure to put in its stead. As before, the third act still kind of happens along, and the middle-section is distinctly choppy, with a much more passive Potter coasting through several short scenes that will lose those who have foresworn the books. Luckily, when the ending (in parts one and two bungled by Columbus) finally arrives, it proves to be Azkaban's ace.
Azkaban contains both the longest denouement and the most rousing finish of any of the books, and Cuaron wisely whips through the 'ah-hahs' so that the clever climax, complete with the series' best SFX, can enjoy its moment in the moonlight. Here, at last, Harry Potter And The Movie Adventure hauls itself up to the standards set by the brilliant books, and a middle-aged Mexican emerges as the story's unlikely hero.
I was disappointed. This was my favorite book in the series and the movie just left out so many key elements. I also wasn't impressed with the new director's "artistic touch" to the film. It had some really good parts, but for the most part, it just wasn't what I was hoping for.
While some of the major plot holes that has plagued this series rear their ugly head and that its missing one key scene, Prisoner of Azkaban is easily best entry in the series, bringing a fast, crisp pace with some beautiful special effects that for the first time serve the story and is woven seamlessly into the film with a captivating atmosphere. The star trio are at their best and give flawless performances, especially Emma Watson who steals the spotlight with little to no effort.
This movie was pretty good it included quite a bit of the polt from the book though some details were left out but overall I still enjoyed the movie.
Its not as good as the book but it shows a darker side of Harry Potter and it showing that Harry is growing up.
Approaching his third year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter has had enough of his muggle relatives. He runs away from them (finally) and enters his third term facing trouble from more than one side: for using magic outside the school and from the news that a notorious criminal, serial killer Sirius Black, has escaped the wizard's prison at Azkaban and apparently is headed for Harry. The school calls in supernatural help against Black in the form of Dementors, but unusual things continue to put Harry in peril. He is thrown into a confusing panoply of shifting alliegences and shifting shapes where nobody is who or what they seem. Who is the real criminal? What is the real crime? Who is telling or knows the truth?
I don't remember where I first saw this, but I remember buying it. Me and my family love this one a lot. I like the choir's song that is like what the witches say in Macbeth.
Im a sucker for harry potter movies. And I thought Sirius was sexy. And then I realized that he was played by the one and only Gary Oldman. Oh yea. I've got good taste.
Pretty good, but not as much like the book as i would have expected.
Its my fav. of all the movies so far...
SIRIUS BLACK. Possibly my favorite of the Harry Potter films. David Thewlis is just spectacular, and you all know how I feel about Gary Oldman (wonderful). All in all, very dark (yay!) and a superb, excellent, perfect supporting cast.
The other Harry Potter films are really good but this is without doubt the best of the lot! The acting is so much improved from the first two films and the director Alfonso Cuaron hits the right notes with this dark and scary film!
average.....poor plot no character development little action. What is the point of making a film without this.....there is none. Waste of my time
I hate to say it but I am H.P. fan. Even though I do not read the books. The story is good stuff and they always deliver with every sequel.
OMG what where they smoking. Thought that the movie was good but dang can we say hack and slash to the story line?
I still say the second was the best. They left out so much in the third, fourth and fifth movies. The folks who haven't read the books (you'd be shocked at how many there are) get too easily confused when they're watching these. Plus, once you've read the book a movie is based on, there are no surprises, unless some genius gets creative, which usually doesn't work out. Daniel still can't act, Emma still can't slow down and ENUNCIATE (she's English; this is just wrong) and Rupert is still going through puberty.
I was SO disappointed that Gary Oldman played my favourite character Sirius Black that I just couldn't get over it! In my mind's eye Sirius was and is Viggo Mortensen and end of story.
The movies really started getting darker & deeper with this one. Everybody seems to hate Harry & he is misunderstood & abused because of his past. That's a bit frustrating to watch. Excellent performances from all involved. Michael Gambon had to step into some mighty big shoes to play Dumbledore, but he did a very good job. The character of Professor Lupin was a great addition; he's sympathetic to Harry & becomes a good friend. Well worth watching!!

Cuaron is one of HP's best directors..he had good camera angles and the sensitivity for details/emotion without being melodramatic.
His style is haunting, yet, infused with lightness and comedy.
Harry looks good here, hermione is all girl power and ron is the cool side kick.
