Although definately not a favourite of mine, the animation in this film is so great that everyone should see it anyway - especially the scene in the zoo.
Penguins, ice and bad singing. Mix it altogether and create the best movie a three-year-old could ever wish for.
I just could not get into this movie. I felt the singing was terrible and the movie felt like it was 5 hours long. It didn't move well at all.
Wonderful movie with the great music... After watching with my husband and 2 years old daughter, surely we had something fun to do... Trying to dance with a happy feet!
Its everything a typical Kids Flick is. Revolves around an outcast who tires to prove himself worthy of being part of the family and showing that his so-called disabilities are not to be looked down upon. He wants to save his kind by trying to fix the food chain. In which he succeeds.
Singing, dancing.. tear drop moments its all in here and that is why I think this film has been a huge success. Kudos..
It shows lots of issues today on global warming, pollution, and messing with the balance of life and what seems simple as fishing is killing other habitats and animals. It is effecting the animals that eat fish.
This is a great animated film. I don't know why everyone hates "kiddy" animated movies. I love them. And this one was just even more awesome. Why? You ask. PENGUINS!!!!!!!!!!!! I love penguins. They are the shiz!
ok my friend says she likes it but doest want to reveiw it.....so here we go......pinapples are yummy wow that pinguins's mouth is really big like yeah
carrots can be shaved if one has braces
shadows stalk me
Never have i seen such an adorable portrayal of baby emperor penguins! These little fluffs and Mumbles, plus the terrific music and tap dancing of Savion make the film a hilarious, entertaining choice for the family. So highly recommended!
Seriously a waste of time and money, simply dumb! why would anyone be interested in a bunch of singing penguins..
In Antarctica, a colony of Emperor Penguins are living peacefully. A female penguin named "Norma Jean" (voiced by Nicole Kidman) finds a mate named "Memphis" (voiced by Hugh Jackman) by singing a "heartsong" ("Kiss" by Prince), to which "Memphis" responds with his own "heartsong ("Heartbreak Hotel" by "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" Elvis Presley). The two hatch a child named "Mumbles" (voiced by EG Daily).
"Mumbles" is not your typical penguin, as he is unable to carry a "heartsong" if it had handles on it. He becomes an outcast, but a female named "Gloria" (voiced by Alyssa Shafer) becomes the only penguin who shows him a shred of respect. It is also obvious that "Mumbles" has feeling for the female penguin.
Years later, the fish population the penguins live off of is dying out. And "Mumbles" goes on an adventure to find out just exactly what is happening with their food.
But, what he finds not only affects his colony, but other species he comes across on his adventure and what he learns are "aliens" (humans).
The first thing I have to say is that the animation is pretty good. The characters move realistically, and they do get the smallest detail in the look of the character. The problem is that, thanks to the location the movie takes place, there is just too much white. You get a few shades of blue, some blacks and grays, and a little yellow and brown. But, there is just too much white, and the scenery is pretty boring.
Like I said, the characters are designed nicely. The actors enhance the characters with their performances. Fortunately, some actors were able to provide multiple voices for different characters. One that stands out is Robin Williams, who provides a voice for about three characters -- including the narrator, which is not in the movie that much.
For the majority of the movie, you get some popular tunes from the last 40 years. Many of the songs are used fairly well to set up scenes. Those who sing the songs do a pretty good job with the covers. However, Prince, who provides at least one original tune, should have been used to perform his hit "Kiss", which "Norma Jean" uses as her "heartsong". Unlike recent movies I've seen, the soundtrack is memorable thanks to the use of many well known songs. I would have liked to have seen a few more original songs to help advance the mood of movie.
And speaking of the movie's mood, it changes when the environmental message comes into light. This is when the movie completely falls apart. In my opinion, the movie makers completely forgot to develop characters and storylines that were presented earlier in the film. For example, instead of "Gloria" going with "Mumbles," she stays with the colony. They completely missed a chance to advance the blossoming romance between the two. Other characters, who are introduced as the environmental message begins to appear, have no chance of development at all.
Another thing that is wrong with this movie is that this really isn't for a young audience. You get some adult humor that should slip past children, and some larger species of Antarctic animals chasing and almost killing a main character.
As for my recommendation, I am somewhere between Yes and No. Prior to the enviornmental message, I would say yes, but only for a rainy day movie. After the environmental message appears, I can't recommend it.
First part is really good. A penguin who doesn't fit in the herd trying to find his niche... On the other hand, the latter part kind of beats you over the head with the "Environmental" message... Now I'm about one of the more environment-loving people you'll meet, but even I got a little turned off by how much it shoves the message in your face... If they had tuned it down just a tad, I would have given this an extra star.
Suspiciously coming across as six short stories stuck together rather than a coherent plot, Happy Feet is short on character development too and villains never reprise. The music is terrible (needs more Elvis Presley and less hip hop), is mostly unsuitable for children and is a big disappointment. As for the ending, it happens so easily, the film might as well not bothered with any of the struggle.
There is potential while Mumble is a baby, judged and terrified, a penguin who wants to dance, rather than sing like all the rest, and the Boss Skua bird who is convinced he has been abducted by aliens (he was tagged by humans) is a fantastic idea. But this has little else to offer, other than some excellent animation.
I always appreciate movies that could reflect more of animals natural characters and still be entertaining kids and adults. Happy Feet is definitely NOT one of such.
It's changing penguins too much into human miniatures (and stereotypes) to the point of being ridiculous.
Plus, the movie is not funny.
Totally recommend if you need to entertain kids that have a musical talent or are musically inclined :D
My feet were very happy after this. Feel good and fuzzy after partaking in this adventure. Lovely story felt a little like Ice meets The Lion King... Good one tho
Nice movie. The soundtrack had me pulling out my disco moves. I love movies about being different...and perhaps that's why this one held my attention.
veeeeeery shallow and boring - had a few funny moments in it, but not enough get more than half of a star.
The only good parts were when Mumble was dancing. And the singing. But I think this movie is overrated.
this was adorable!! but hugh jackman doesnt sound like himself. i think that he should have voiced in his sexy australian accent! at one part i thought that the movie was over, if it had been then that would ahve been a terrible ending. but it turned out fine.
Not really anything transcendent here, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. And I do loves me some penguins.
me encanta como se ven los trapos pinguinos y su mensaje de que hay que llevarle pez a los pinguinos que solamente bailen
A musical Antarctic emperor penguins colony finds it mates through song & Norma Jean (Nicole Kidman) chooses Memphis (Hugh Jackman) as her mate. Mumble (Elijah Wood) is an outcast can't carry a tune but can dance like Savion Glover. Mumble found the carefree colony of adelie penguins afar away from home. Mumble ends up in a penguin exhibit at a marine park. When a child taps on the glass wall when Mumble is woken from his stupor & dances with a large crowd taking pictures. The researchers arrive to film the penguins dancing & dance along with the rhythm.
this movie is an all time favorite of mine. my favorite thing about it though is the funny little mexican penguins they take the cake.
really thought it was a creative movie with a great plot! it was sooo adorable hopefuly their is a part two with a romantic twist! jejejejeje
