A Classic
A classic!
A classic!
It's been about a month since I first watched this movie, but I still catch my mind randomly recalling images and impressions of various scenes. For some reason, the moment that Rhett carries Scarlett up those larger than life stairs to finally release his frustration and buried passion still gives me chills when I think about it. To me, nearly every scene in this movie could have been tagged for a highlight reel and been expanded into a story in itself, each with its own distinct tone and vision. To mention the greatness of the story or the extent to which characters develop, change, and breathe is almost superfluous after 70 years of praise heaped upon this film.
Truly an epic in every sense.
this is a true classic and time has no bearing on it. Watch once, and you are transfored back to a time of gentlemen, and ladies.
This was a good film for its time. I can see why its a classic. Has a good cast and the story is interesting enough to keep me watching. Clark Gable was my actor in the film.
Scarlett: Rhett if you go, what will I do, where will I go?
Rhett: "FRANKLY MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN"!
all what i can say is " there's a fine line between love and hate".
There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South... Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow... Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave... Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. A Civilization gone with the wind...Rated: (G)
Directed by: George Cukor, Sam Wood, Victor Fleming
Genres: Drama, Classics
Starring: Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Leslie Howard, Butterfly McQueen
THE MOVIE OUTLINE
"Scarlett is a woman who can deal with a nation at war, Atlanta burning, the Union Army carrying off everything from her beloved Tara, the carpetbaggers who arrive after the war. Scarlett is beautiful. She has vitality. But Ashley, the man she has wanted for so long, is going to marry his placid cousin, Melanie. Mammy warns Scarlett to behave herself at the party at Twelve Oaks. There is a new man there that day, the day the Civil War begins. Rhett Butler. Scarlett does not know he is in the room when she pleads with Ashley to choose her instead of Melanie. "MY APPRAISAL
Gone With The Wind, without doubt and hesitation is the one of the best thing Hollywood had ever done of all time. It would be pointless and unworthy when a NOBODY like me, critisizing this MASTERPIECE. I'm not a classic junkie, but I'm very thankful for witnessing this kind of legend.
PICTURE THAT SIMULTANEOUSLY DEFINES 'CLASSIC' and 'HOLLYWOOD'"As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!"
-SCARLETT O'HARA-
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."
-RHETT BUTLER-
If you had to watch a classic movie, it has to be this one!!! One of my all time favourites and I can watch it over and over.
It deals with issues that still go on today despite the fact that it is a 1939 movie.
A man falls in love with a highly spirited young woman and eventually becomes her third husband but she thinks she's in love with someone else. She only realises she loves him back in the end but he had gotten tired of waiting for her to love him back and asks for a divorce.
Clark Gable was astonishingly amazing in his role as Rhett Butler. And he delivers his last line with such intensity.....
Scarlett: Rhett if you go, what will I do, where will I go?
Rhett: "FRANKLY MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN"!
Warning people, there's a fine line between love and hate.
I just revisited this film today after talking about it with a friend of mine, just on the subject of Rhett Butler. Not the Technical merits of the film, the acting, ect. Just one charcter..Rhett. SO I plopped the movie in the DVD machine and sat down for 4 hours and was taken away. This is one of the greatest movies ever made and could not be duplicated today. Just no way. It was the first time that I saw it in 10 years and I remember everything, every scene, like it was yesterday. That is how monumental this film is. the four hours flew by. And yes, I did get a little misty eyed during the last half hour. Not because of scarlet losing Rhett, no...She deserved that. She was an opportunist and reminds me of a couple of women that I knew in the past. I misted because everything was put together so well. This is a film of great caliber and I wish that kids would give this a chance with open minds. Yes this is almost 70 years old but it's better than any so called romantic epics that are coming out now. This was movie making for the sheer love of movie making and with that comes a profit.
This classic movie is old-fashioned and that completely works in its favor. It captures an era that is truly "gone with the wind." The first colored film to win best picture at the Oscars, this truly is an epic and Vivien Leigh has such presence and character, it takes an actor like Gable to hold his ground next to her. Their daring love story represents the modern age (and the modern woman) and history needs to pass by in order for our future to advance. It's both a feminist film and a humbling character study, all amidst an epic civil war. This is rare and consummate film making.
i seen it in a movie theatre and it had an intermission.i saw it a couple weeks back the way it appeared long ago.and i saw it in color.the theater i saw it in is 100 years old
One of the classic films that defined American cinema, Gone With the Wind is a rare example of a collaboration involving hundreds of talents and egos that turned out great. The resulting four-hour epic is still the highest-grossing movie of all time -- and it deserves to be. For millions of people, Gone With the Wind has helped to define the myth and reality of America?s most tragic period of history, the Civil War and Reconstruction. Awesome movie about 2 people with very different lives who meet and fall in love during the turmoil and tragedy of the civil war
Wow! This is the ultimate soap opera experience and, oddly enough, that's why I loved it so much. I mean, it's so theatrical and over the top it's a lot of fun, thanks largely to Scarlett O'Hara.
I dont knoe what to think of this movie. I loved watching it but three things bothered me: Scarlet was a complete brat, everybody died and the ending was depressing... Other than that, this movie was as wonderful as everyone said! (I love Rhet, he is so awesome!!)
Interesting enough for its length, and sometimes quite stunning in its visuals, but really just a fancy soap opera.
this movie is so romantic and has awesome actors. sure the end stinks but that only makes you whant to wach the next movie.the movie might be old but it hasn't lost its wonder.
it's awfully long, and i expect i've seen movies that work the same way, or perhaps i've lived it - but i suppose someday i'll see it.
This epic romance is considered a classic, and while it certainly does tell a good story, I didn't really enjoy it very much. Mostly because Scarlett is an obnoxious character. I didn't *want* to see her happy. I wanted to see her get her comeuppance. Although there was a little bit of that at the end, there wasn't nearly enough for me to feel satisfied after four hours' worth of movie. Vivien Leigh portrays it brilliantly, however, and I can certainly see why so many people like it. There's a lot to enjoy here... if the character doesn't get in the way.
the 1st half of hte movie was so boring i almost stopped watching it. but the second half was great. it was horrible though how bonnie died the same way scarletts father did. i didnt know that he would just leave her for good at the end.
sara is such a ditz! after all tomorrow is another day!
Okay, it was alright...I still don't know why Mr. Anderson made us watch this last year...I didn't learn a thing, and it was as boring as hell.
Hugely entertaining perennial, but one gets more snippily critical as one gets beyond the reputation, the money, and the epic sweep. I'll watch it again in five years.
This is a very enjoyable movie. However, the first half is better than the second... :/ At least, Gable's and Leigh's performances are flawless all throughout. ;)
In what seems to be considered the most beloved romance of all time, Gable and Leigh give very satisfying performances. Sometimes the book isn't better than the movie! What an affair!
One-Sentence Review:
"A Classic In The History Of Film Making"
(This film shows the best of the American cinema. Whether we like the film, or not, one has to recognize the greatest achievement, perhaps, of the creative talent of the people working in the movie industry. "Gone with the Wind" represents a monumental leap, as well as a departure, for the movies, as they were done prior to this film.)

Hi there! Try this quiz!http://www.flixster.com/user/tanyabolotina/quiz/gone-with-the-wind?invitorId=831901874
i watched this movie for the first time yesterday, and i must say i think it was very odd. the film work is good, the acting adequate and the script was written appropriately for the time... but although the film itself was excellently made, the storyline frustrated me dearly. such a fickle piece of work was scarlet, twas disgusting how she kept throwning herself at ashleys feet even when he shot her down, then the silly girl cries and screams 'i hate you and i hope you die' which she retracts five minutes later. Also i hate how she married the two men she didnt love, she married thm for convenience and money! i found it infuriating! then finally when all she has cared for is gone and her third husband (who adores her) is walking out the door, she finally realises she doesnt love ashley at all... she actually loves her husband but didnt realise it. then when it has been realised its to late! Scarlet was stupid and blind! i wouldnt watch it again, but i would recommend it to friends
