MCT:October 11, 2008Gladiator was truly one of the best movies for russel crow he did a wonderful job of being a gladiator. It made me think about what really went on back the roman times.

"Il gladiatore" in italiano. Film eccellente dal punto di vista tecnico, penoso dal punto di vista storico: le incongruenze sono troppe per essere accettate tutte in una volta. Ottima interpretazione di Russel Crowe, forse la sua migliore.

Russell Crowe played an amazing role in this movie. The whole plot is outstanding. A must see movie. Perhaps the best of it's time for all time.

My all-time favorite movie. It still holds the top spot on my list. There have been some close calls. But this flick is just too good, and Russel Crowe isn't even one of my favorite actors. This movie is very long, which i love.

Awesome. This, above all else, is what made Russell Crowe a star.
Yeah, you can point to LA Confidential as his pivotal moment, but that just brought his name out. Gladiator made him a household name and ensured him of big roles and big money. The fight choreography was wonderful, the character Maximus was incredible, Joaquin Phoenix, though I am still not sold on that casting job, played his character's scheming, slimy personality to its fullest. -

IF YOU WATCH THE EXTENDED VERSION, IT IS SIMPLY THE BEST MOVIE TO COME OUT THIS DECADE, HANDS DOWN. RIDLEY SCOTT GOT SCREWED SO BAD OUT OF BEST DIRECTOR AND SO DID J. PHONIX AS SUPPORTING ACTOR ON HIS PART AS COMMIDUS, THIS IS IN MY TOP 3 OF ALL-TIME LIST

In Gladiator, Ridley Scott showed his world-creating genius once again: his portrait of the Roman Empire at its frenzied height is every bit as visionary as the sci-fi worlds he previously created in Alien and Blade Runner. Russell Crowe is the strong centerpiece of this vision - but the rest of the cast is equally excellent; their characters are rich and multi-dimensional. The costumes, arms and armor look plausible, down to their tiny details. The battles are brutal and breathtaking. The city of Rome itself feels alive - dirty, chaotic, gaudy, beautiful, massive, sweltering. And yes, the plot is exciting and holds the viewer's interest. My one complaint (and I realize I'm nit-picking here) is that the writers butchered Roman history in order to have a stunning climax on the floor of the Colosseum: the actual emperor Commodus outlived his sister Lucilla by ten years (he killed her, not the other way around), and his murder brought the brutal Severan dynasty to power - a return of the Republic was never in the cards! It seemed a shame to me that with everything in this film feeling so authentic (down to the smallest details), that something so "big" would be so blatantly incorrect. That said, it's still a great film - and still five stars.

SOMETIMES PEOPLE TELL ME THEY DISSAPEAR AND THE GREEKS DISSAPEAR TOO, THIS IS A BIG LIE- MAN THEY HAVE THEIR OWN NATION TOO JUST LIKE THE OTHERS.JUST ASK ONE QUESTION THE GREEKS DISSAPEAR? Solid flick! gore, action, intrigue, roman showers.. Oh wait, no nevermind forget that last part entirely. Lol this movie is defiantly one of my fave's, something about Maximus finally finding peace the way only death can give after such a screwed up mid life crisis. And that music at the end gives me the chills... good times. :-)

i was surprised no one noticed the resemblance between 'gladiator' and 'the fall of the roman empire'. i thought someone besides me would have already put it in the "more like this" suggestions, apparently not. so now i'm sure you're curious. if you can find it, rent it. it is an older style and i know some cry-babies can't handle watching anything over 15-20 years old, if that's you, don't bother watching it. i think it's interesting to compare the two.
