''I seek a beautiful girl. My life partner, my one coquette, the answer to my love's duet.''
A classic Disney fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about a fairytale princess who is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer. Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?
Amy Adams: Giselle
I was following Enchanted for a while appreciating the very original concept and design at it's heart. Disney succeeds and then some. Enchanted was a refreshing taste of comedy and the happily ever after formula. It did not follow the usual sappy result fortunately. However, I won't reveal what happened because you need to find out. Personally very much enjoyed this turn of events, to the typical plot contrivances for this genre. The comedy seemed like it could appeal to all age ranges.
The makers packed in many jokes perfectly into the plot. Not once did the comedy seem crass or even bizarre, almost every joke was funny. Very many parts of the old fairy tales were used in some parts of the plot, such as Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. However they were used in such a stylistic manner that it all seemed to seamlessly blend together with the rest of the story. The villains were very despicable, and the good guys were very lovable. Overall the plot was very solid and very well written. It carried all the magic and the entertainment factor of all the classics before it.
''Remember, when you go out not to put too much makeup otherwise the boys will get the wrong idea and you know how they are...''
The sound mix was surprisingly good considering the film's Genre. Once again, another engrossing quality of the film. Skywalker Sound really does a good job with every film the do the sound mixing for. There were many ambient effects from all around the theater perfectly placed, which added a sense of depth to what was on screen.
The Visual effects were very well done. There was one sequence that involved a massive dragon roosting at the tip of what I think was the Chrysler Building. The dragon seemed very believable, and the digital rain and lightning in the scene reflected very well off of the dragon's scales. I have no nitpicks here.
''Everybody has problems. Everybody has bad times. Do we sacrifice all the good times because of them?''
Performances are top notch. We get to see some amazing characters. Amy Adams as Giselle is lovely, charismatic and really uses her voice to blast her character into new levels of masterful likability. Patrick Dempsey as Robert Philip, Man Of Honor star, Grey's Anatomy heart throb gives us a likable, ordinary every day New York man hero. James Marsden as Prince Edward, X-Men & Superman Returns star, surprises us with an over the top prince intent on getting his bride to be. Timothy Spall as Nathaniel, Spall seems to have a penchant for these kind of movies, whether it be Sweeney Todd or Harry Potter, he is a fascinating actor who breathes life into his respective characters. Susan Sarandon as the Queen Narissa, presents us with a very good nemesis yet I do find she was under used in the movie apart from the use of her voice. But she was a menacing presence.
Along the way of telling this remarkable story, we get to see a very challenging film production featuring two distinct worlds and their accompanying designs, and the interweaving these two worlds. It's occasionally heavy on visual effects and animated sequences as stated before, but the effects are always story-driven and never overly gratuitous. A surprising enough thing nowadays that it's worth taking note of. Strong film-making skills, with an old-school sensibility, are in play making this a must see for adults and children alike.

"We're so close to reaching that famous happy ending. Almost believing this one's not pretending. Now you're beside me and look how far we've come. So close, so close, but still... so far."
THE MOVIE OUTLINE
"Once upon a time in the kingdom of Andalasia, a beautiful young maiden named Giselle lives in a cottage in the forest. But before she can marry the dashing Prince Edward, Giselle is sent tumbling down a magical well - and finds herself in the non-animated, extremely disenchanted world of modern-day New York City. There, she befriends a cynical divorce lawyer, Robert, who isn't so sure that her prince is coming to rescue her. Giselle's spontaneous singing and fairy-tale demeanor enchant everyone around her as she waits for Prince Edward. But she's about to discover that love in the real world isn't always as easy as sharing a single True Love's Kiss - and that she'll need courage, spunk and maybe just a little enchantment if she's ever going to find her own happily-ever-after. "
MY APPRAISAL
Another Disney's work of art! Ultimately enchanting and highly recommended for everyone. The casts make it even more enjoyable. Gosh, I would watch this for the 100th times. The soundtracks are incredible (but never topped neither August Rush' Raise It Up nor Once Falling Slowly). But Enchanted's So Close and Happy Working Song aren't ones you would missed.
After screwing around with their High School Musical, finally AN ENCHANTING MEGA-HIT!
A classic animated Disney feature takes on a new twist in an instant Disney classic. Princess Giselle is transported from her far away land by her prince charming wicked Queen Step-Mother, so they do not marry and the queen loses her crown. Once upon arriving in New York City, Giselle meets a handsome single father lawyer who changes Giselle?s views on life and love. Can a fairytale romance from the storybooks succeed in modern-day life or will a wicked queen rein her terror and put a not so-happy ending to the storybook.
Enchanted is a movie that is part animation and part live action that takes the Disney animation and spins the classic stories to life on the silver screen. The movie plays out perfectly as the movie not only captivates the audience; the movie also pokes fun at the classic Disney animation that preceded this. Enchanted is a great story that people of all ages will enjoy. Young or old, the story catches your heart. Enchanted is also one of the freshest ideas to come on screen in awhile for the family genre and scores big. Enchanted is directed well and has the perfect cast to portray the story. Enchanted is a magical adventure that receives four and half poison apples out of five for being one of the best family movies of all time.
This certainly isn't groundbreaking, and I know a lot of people are quick to point out the similarities between "Enchanted" and other films... but, I think it's the cast that really makes this stand out.
Amy Adams is absolutely wonderful. With a lesser actress this could have been excruciatingly hard to watch. She had the character down to every expression and movement, and it was extremely believable and just an absolute delight to watch.
This movie was perfectly casted! Amy Adams does such a great job, James Marsden plays the perfect prince, and Patrick Dempsey is SOO gorgeous and funny! I really enjoyed Enchanted it was sooo hilarious and cute, I LOVED all the little references they make to the classic Disney films and how they poke a little fun at the fairytale cliches. The dance scene at the ball when Patrick is singing along to the song in her ear, that was so romantic, squeee!!!!!
A brilliant, wonderful and enchantedly original fantasy comedy that adults will love just as much as the kids. Adventureses, delightful, thrilling and incrediably hilarious. It's full of great effects, spirit and heart. A totally fun ride. Amy Adams gives a completely dedicated, heart-warming and magnificent performance. Patrick Dempsey gives a fantastic performance. James Marsden steals the show with his outstanding and hilarious performance. Endlessly enjoyable and frequntly entertaining. Bursting out with charm and great comedy.
I was thoroughly surprised to find myself completely hooked on and enjoying this silly movie. There is nothing dazzling about it, and it is far from perfect, but it had me laughing at and caring for each of the characters. It was able to strike a notes of both comedy and sympathy while blatantly making fun of itself and every other fairy tale story. The idea of setting it in New York made it all the more enjoyable. Definitely give it a try, this isn't Oscar material, or even Disney's best, but at least you'll be smiling by the end.
Amy Adams makes it worth the price of admission alone, but with such a terrific cast and a whimsical idea, you can't deny the movie's charm. Well done.
Prince Edward: [threatening Robert with his sword] Have you any last words before I dispatch you? Robert: You have got to be kidding me! Prince Edward: Strange words!
Here's an entertaining take on the standard Disney animated feature, one that literally jumps out of the story book pages an into a live action version of itself.
Amy Adams stars as Giselle, a beautiful girl starting out in an animated world seeking her true love. She soon finds him in the form of Prince Edward, played by James Marsden, but is soon tricked into leaving her world by an evil queen played by Susan Sarandon (don't you hate when that happens).
Giselle lands in New York city, where the handsome single lawyer Robert, played by Patrick Dempsey, becomes the one to take care of her, and alert her to the reality of the the real world.
[Giselle and the other people at Central Park all start singing] Robert: How do you all know this song? I've never heard this song before!
Despite being stuck in a real world, Giselle still remains naive to the new constrictions, and treats things like one from an animated Disney princess world would. It is not until her Prince Edward arrives that she realizes she has developed a 3rd dimension.
This film works because it provides an entertaining concept that everyone can enjoy. It's high concept provides a lot of fun to be poked at past Disney princess stories, as well as a lot of fun involving animated characters living in a real world. And even though it is a PG family film, the introduction of some complexity into Giselle makes it a better movie.
By the third act, you can see exactly where this story is going to go, but that doesn't stop it from being entertaining. It also helps that Amy Adams is an extremely lovable person and very cute.
Giselle: Now if only I can find a place to rest my head for the night. Robert Philip: What kind of place? Giselle: I don't know. Maybe a nearby meadow or a hollow tree. Robert Philip: A hollow tree? Giselle: Or a house full of dwarves. I hear they're very hospitable.
Very cutesy. Ok, I'm giving it a high rating not because I so much loved the movie or anything, but because it's exactly what it looks to be. Overall its another good Disney family movie, kids will love it. Story is predictable, ending left something to be desired, but overall it's a good watch. I didn't personally like it enough to give it 4 stars, but when I think about who they're trying to appeal to and how well they do appeal to that audience, I give it the 4 stars. I wish it would have been funnier, a little more subtle adult humor or something, but overall it was ok.
This was cute. A little hard to keep in mind that even though you're looking at real people that it's still a Disney movie and if it was cartoon thats the way it would be, if that makes any sense. But It was really cute and I really liked the ending. Well done!
This film is an 'all rounder'; it contains all the Disney elements that children and adults love, but also enough to humour to make it an enjoyable comedy for the adults. Amy Adams is brilliant as the innocent Giselle, she embodies everything that a Disney character should; from her musical ensembles to her sunny view of the world. Patrick Dempsey plays the cynical lawyer, who isn't sure if Giselle has banged her head or is just crazy. James Marsden is perfect as the classic Disney prince; suave and arrogant, while Susan Sarandon obviously relishes being the evil witch. Timothy Spall plays the bumbling, and occasionally annoying, side-kick, but he also provides the basis for many of the jokes. Everything works here to bring a wonderful family-friendly story to life. Complete with its pop-up book bookends, Enchanted is truly magical. I don't know how it could ever have worked as a complete animated work, as I have read it originated as, so thankfully they took the plunge to expand it with live action. "Enchanted" doesn't necessarily mark a return of the old fairy tale magic conspicuously absent in recent Disney films; but it has the charms and clever wit - not to mention star Amy Adams bubbly charisma - to win over audiences outside the target demographic.
Ok, how do I start. This movie is corny, in fact it takes the word corny to a whole new level, It is also kinda predictable, from the very beginning you kinda know with whom she's gonna end. But I don't know if its the holiday season or what but I really enjoy this movie. It is a very fine parody of all Disney movies with a princess as a main character. The story is good and entertaining. Giselle a young girl who is waiting for his prince for the first love kiss and live happily ever after when the evil queen/witch send her to an unknown place to her, New York city. It has its funny moments and some musical ones like in all Disney movies. The fx are very good, specially when Susan Sarandon's character turns into a dragon. The cast is very good, Amy Adams in a cute and tender role that you will finish loving her or hating her, James Marsden as the typical and innocent fairy tale prince, Susan Sarandon is excellent as the evil queen/ witch and women will love Patrick Dempsey with this performance that fits him really well. In conclusion, If you don't like this type of moviesyou will get annoyed very soon, if you are the corny type of people, you definitely will love it. For me, yes it was corny and kinda foolish but also I think its worthy to give it a chance to watch it with the family and spend an enjoyable and entertaining moment.
Hate to say it, but I enjoyed this movie. Disney did a pretty spot-on job poking a little fun at itself, but at the same time, you have to wonder if the idea bucket is getting dry for them. (How about...we make a movie kinda like all our other princess movies, except we slightly satire it? That sounds AWESOME!!!)
Given all that, it's actually quite good, if you like Disney movies. If not, you might either want to wait and watch it with someone who is.
I really enjoyed this movie. It's a little girl princess story, but also offers stuff for us other folks.
The movie starts out as a classic Disney animated princess fairy tale in the tradition of Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty - but things get totally amazing when the animated princess is thrown into a magic pond - and comes out in live action New York city! Several other characters follow her and end up in our world.
It's a well-written film with high production values. Bravo Disney! There are so many good scenes, including an apartment-cleanup work song with pigeons, rats and cockroaches instead of cute forest animals. I liked the huge love song and dance number in Central Park. The CGI dragon effects were a bit obvious, but still stunning to look at.
The Princess Gisele in the movie (Amy Adams) was a perfect princess, bubbling with beauty and cheeriness. There was a cute chipmunk animal sidekick called "Pip" who was sooo cute. Patrick Dempsey didn't do much for me. I didn't think his daughter Morgan (played by Rachel Covey) had enough of a role. Susan Sarandon is superb as the wicked Queen. Timothy Spall made a nice comical henchman for the wicked Queen.
Overall, very enjoyable movie, packed with fun fantasy stuff and oozing with Disney magic.
It's amazingly odd, how a movie you first dislike, after second time viewing can change your whole perception of it?!
I cant say much about my first review for this movie, i was wrong and i admit it. Enchanted is good, really good!
Maybe when the first time i watched it in theater, i did not enjoy cause of the hype surrounding this movie. with overly hype, one can only concentrate about the bad thing of a movie not the good thing. and that's what happened to me.
Well, this review is a nice one :D Enchanted is a very lovable movie, though there are sort of annoying scenes specially coming from 'Nathaniel' (it was such an unnecessary character!) but overall it's a good movie. Amy Adams as everyone said is the main source of success in this, she is so adorable as Princess! Patrick was good, James was quite funny. The idea to combine every classic Disney princess stories comes at handy, as one can spot which scene refer to which. Nice songs too, though i think they should add more?!
Bottom line, dont watch it when you are in a bad mood!
