"I think I just threw up in my mouth!" I've never watched this with a dry eye from laughing so hard!
Nobody makes me bleed my own blood. NOBODY!!!!!!!!!!
If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball.
If you can dodge traffic you can dodge a ball.
Go ahead, make your jokes, Mr. Jokey... Joke-maker. But let me hit you with some knowledge. Quit now. Save yourself the embarrassment of losing with these losers in Las Vegas, La Fleur
Welcome back to ESPN 8 "The Ocho"
If its almost a sport weve got it.
Well, this is really funny, and I like just about every part except what happens after the game with Kate. Ew.
Hilarious and offbeat satire of the traditional Hollywood feelgood movie - which still leaves you feeling pretty good (unless you watch the credits - that'll leave a sour aftertaste!). Bizarre, yet standard.
oh god, I saw this movie on TV and I thought it was pretty bad...and what the hell does "you made me bleed my own blood" mean!!!
The ad slogan for the movie's featured evil corporation is, "At Globo-Gym, we're better than you, and you know it!" The movie itself could've easily used the slogan, "We'll make you laugh mindlessly, and you'll know it!" Being supremely aware of every stupid, immoral, uncivil, and just-plain-wrong thing it does makes Dodgeball either very smart or just as dopey as it's trying to look. It almost feels like a dare: laugh at this because you know you it's easy to get hooked on an underdog/sports story; laugh at this, even though you know it's wrong to find stereotypes funny; laugh at this, even though we all know this is totally dumb. Viewers are constantly kept aware of all the intentional idiocy by the exaggerated onslaught of genre conventions, and the whole thing is capped off by an object wheeled in during the climax that's literally labeled "Deus Ex Machina," and by a post-credits cherry featuring Ben Stiller commenting on the audience's lowbrow tastes. Although the movie clunks in many places, it has enough comic inspiration to save it, from its lampooning dodgeball as a demeaning sport (thus actually making an honest critique of the origin and existence of this semi-barbaric activity in the process) to Stiller and Vince Vaughn switching roles against-type as the bully and the put-upon protagonist, respectively. They make the most of it when Stiller rattles off circuitous, ineffective threats and Vaughn reacts in squinty-eyed disbelief. I was also reacting to the movie that way, but I was laughing at the same time.
Great movie I was laughing throughout the hole movie. It's definetly a must see movie! Really good, HILARIOUS too!!!!
Watched it for the 3rd time last night because I mean really aren't we all average joes. Plus it's Vince Vaughn's best role to date
as i said, i have a soft spot for Vince Vaugn and his on-point sort of sarcastic humor. And I'm slowly growing appreciation for Jason Bateman as well. I'm already tired of Ben Stiller though, and despite that I thought this movie was really funny.
Ok not very good movie but it had its moments. Gotta Love Stiller as the bad guy in the white oldschool leisure suit. oh and remember "If you can dodge a wrenge you can dodge a ball."
One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. One of those movies that you will laugh every time you watch it no matter how many times you've seen it. Hilariously awesome.
I like Vince Vaughn, but this is jsut not funny. Guess what? Someone gets hit in the nuts with a dodgeball! Bet you didn't see that coming!
FUNNI!!! Those guys are hilarious, and i don't remember this movie that well- but i remember when this one guy gets hit and it's hilarious!!!!
Still laughing now! The cover says it all and throws Ben into a painful and unpredictably hysterical character that you just gotta see! I think this one brought out the Vaughn for the world. Good silly funny when you are tired and cold or bored, this relights the fire!
Very dumb but very funny. I did not expect to like this. Who knew? Best for the sports announcers of ESPN8.
Ben Stiller can be funny. And so can Vince Vaughn, he just needs to slow down so we can understand him.
It's surprising how such a weird film can have a meaning behind it. Other than Shaun of the dead , this is probably the funniest film I've seen. Some of the things White goodman and the guy in the wheelchair are so random and just make me laugh so much. But every character is so unique and so hilarious.
This movie was very funny and I cant believe I enjoyed it, I mean it IS terrible movie, but the jokes overcome my common sense.
Like most American comedies, this should have been rubbish. Thanks to the great cast, some brilliant character work and a perfect straight-man in Vaughan, this film succeeds massively and is so rewatchable. To say nothing of Ben Stiller...
Dodgeball (2004)
Directed By Rawson Marshall Thurber
Starring Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Rip Torn, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Joel Moore, Chris Williams, Alan Tudyk, Missi Pyle«Patches O'Houlihan: If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
Justin: What?
[Patches throws a wrench and hits Justin in the face]»Peter LaFleur (Vaughn) is the laid-back owner of Average Joes, a failing gym with a handful of loyal, but eccentric, members, including Steve the Pirate (Tudyk), Justin (Long), Gordon (Root), and employees Dwight (Williams) and Owen (Moore). His rival, White Goodman (Stiller), owner of the glamorous Globo-Gym located across the street, has purchased Average Joe's defaulted mortgage, meaning that Peter must raise $50,000 in 30 days in order to redeem the equity of redemption on the about-to-be-foreclosed mortgage, or else Goodman will successfully foreclose upon Average Joe's Gym and demolish it for a parking garage. Working on this transaction is attorney Kate Veatch (Taylor), whom White attempts, and fails, to charm, although she and Peter develop a friendship despite her role in his business troubles. After various half-hearted attempts at money-raising fail, Gordon declares that they can win the money needed to pay the redemption costs by winning a dodgeball competition in Las Vegas, and begin to train to enter the tournament.
Dodgeball is a typical brainless comedy; only difference is its all about dodgeball. It is about Vince Vaughn's character called Peter, who is desperate to save his gym by collecting $50,000 by winning a dodgeball competition. It is important to notice that Vince did well, a good solid performance from him, but nothing special really. Ben Stiller played the villain, a guy called White, who bought Peter's gym and now trying to stop him from retaining his gym back. Stiller gave a great performance, his character was a typical evil guy, who just wants to make a good guy suffer; a bit like in any superhero movie, only in this film he is interesting in purchasing Peters gym. Christine Taylor plays a woman who is working on the transaction of Peter's gym; both slowly start finding each other attractive. I didn't really enjoy Christine's performance, she and Vaughn didn't have any mixture between them and they just looked bad together, but love is not the whole point of this movie so it didn't really matter. The rest of the actors did well, everyone who played the members of the Average Joes gym/dodgeball team were good and a special praise goes to Missi Pyle for creating a completely unforgettable character.
There is not much to say about this movie, it's a typical comedy that you don't have to understand or to think about deeply, just watch and enjoy it. Some scenes and dialogues were hilarious, but overall you won't get anything else from this movie. I feel exactly the same as Stiller's character in the end of the movie: most of American movies end up with a happy ending, and that is why movies like that will never make it to the top of the movie business. It doesn't mean they are pointless, it means that they are rather simple and mostly predictable.

a true underdog story indeed. funny and quite inspirational at the rare time. i love how a movie so stupid can have real meaning behind it. yummy, vince vaughn!
Patches O'Houlihan: If you're going to become true dodgeballers, then you've got to learn the five d's of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!
Here's a very ridiculous sports comedy that works because its just really damn funny. Vince Vaugn is in complete, effortlessly funny Vaugn mode and Ben Stiller moves away from his nervous awkward character and into his over-the-top asshole character.
Patches O'Houlihan: If you can dodge traffic, you can dodge a ball.
The movie involves two rival gyms, owned by Stiller and Vaughn. Stiller's gym, Globo Gym, is trying to close down Vaughn's gym, who is struggling as it is with money needed to keep it open.
Peter La Fleur: Come on, Kate. It's time to put your mouth where our balls are.
Vauhn and his gym members decide to enlist in a dodgeball tournament in an effot to win the money they need. What follows is one ridiculous scene after the other involving dodgeball training, Stiller being ridiculous, Vaughn having one great quip after another, and the various other supporting characters, including Rip Torn and Justin Long being hilarious.
Peter La Fleur: Hey, White. I didn't think that Nazi camp got out until eight. Did you decide to skip arts and crafts?
White Goodman: Yes, I did.
This movie is really funny. It moves along extremely quick, with almost no stops along the way. Its repeatedly funny and features two of my favorite cameos, which are hysterical.
Peter La Fleur: You had me at blood and semen.
This is a very funny movie, that I keep coming back to because of all the characters involved and the ridiculous dodgeball action involved as well.
White Goodman: Go ahead, make your jokes, Mr. Jokey... Joke-maker. But let me hit you with some knowledge. Quit now. Save yourself the embarrassment of losing with these losers in Las Vegas, La Fleur.
Peter La Fleur: Alliteration aside, I'll take my chances in the tournament.
White Goodman: Yeah, you will take your chances.
Peter La Fleur: I know. I just said that.
White Goodman: I know you just said that.
Peter La Fleur: Okay, I'm not sure where you're going with this.
White Goodman: Well, I'm not sure where *you're* going with this.
Peter La Fleur: That's what I said.
White Goodman: That's what I'm saying to *you*.
Peter La Fleur: All right.
White Goodman: ...TouchÈ.
Finally a movie that i actually liked Vince Vaughn. This was a good movie with a good storyline, although Ben Stiller didn't have such a good performance it was still a good movie. I give it a B-
