Great film, compelling script, with probably one of the most complicated, dependent love stories. Simple and clear, with no cherry on top, becomes what it is thanks to the eminent performances of Cillian Murphy and Elaine Cassidy. And what an ending, drowned in the sea of tragedy.

It is indeed "90 minutes you will never foreget." The acting is phenomenal and though the story itself is not particularly impressive, the language is this marvelous Shakespearean Cork slang mixture. It's really gorgeous, even if you can't quite figure out what they're talking about. This is why Cilllian Murphy is clearly a great actor.

I really find it difficult to write about this film. It's a strange one and you really need to see it to get the whole depth of someones opinion of it. Through-out this film you get the feeling that it is striving to be better than it is. It is brimming with such surreal ideas that are striving to be heard, seen and realised. Originally this was a stage play, and in some scenes of this movie, you can tell. Some scenes feel like they would fit perfectly on stage, but come across to talky on film. We are first introduced to these characters right from the very beginning of their lives. We see the girl, Runt being born and then being placed next to Pig. We then see them all grown upnearly 17. Throughout the film you get some intresting back story to their childhood. These back stories add great character depth. It starts off very strangely as the audience is introduced to their little world. It is a very strange world and you feel uncomfortable to be part of it. You see their daily routine, which is sometimes so strange that you almost feel it to much to take in at once. But all this is necessary in the build up to what is at times a very tense creepy final act. The reason behind all this daily routine is so you an understand how Pig feels when Runt leaves and is whole world has changed in an instant. He therefore sets off to find her and be joined together. But he has become extremely jealous of anybody that even lays eyes on her. Due to them having such a close-knit relationship for all their lives, he can't bear the thought of her with anyone else. So he sees everyone else as an enemy, which of course makes him loonier than all the looney tunes in a nut house. The finale is dramatic but not as good as it could have been. You feel that it could have been different and you get the feeling of, 'Why the hell did you do that', there are many other options. This film deserves a stronger ending, it lets it down from the modern classic it could have been. The performances are nigh on perfect, with the two leads showing such great talent. Cillian Murphy has the much harder role, as his character goes under much more of a character transformation. He is so creepingly convincing that you are really scraed by what he becomes. Elaine Cassidy is very sweet and she gives a solid perofrmance, which adds a sweet sensitive human touch to the crazy going ons. This film suffers from a weak beginning and a rickety ending, but the middle is solid. It is a shame because this craves to be more than it is. But I highly recommend this, I think this is a film that will have very varied opinions.

Based on the play by Enda Walsh, 'Disco Pigs' is the story of Pig and Runt - two teens with a seemingly impenetrable friendship whose lives are spent causing trouble and disregarding the rules of the school, the family and the country. Their relationship becomes threatened however, by both inward and outward forces, leading to a horrible path of jealousy, confusion and violence. Cillian Murphy is frighteningly good as the psychotic 'Pig' - completely entranced and obsessed by 'Runt' in every manner. Elaine Cassidy is also excellent in the role of Runt' striving for independence, but torn between her love for 'Pig' and her desire for freedom. Kirsten Sheridan's interesting and unique direction also makes the film very entertaining. Through the use of flashback, slow-motion and electrifying score, she communicates a strange, but oddly beautiful story of love between two highly unpredictable people. A tale of madness and obsession, 'Disco Pigs' will not be to everyone's tastes, however for those who enjoy eccentric and one-of-a-kind pieces, it is essential viewing.

There was just something about this story that was brought to my attention.

Darren aka Pig [Murphy] and Sinead aka Runt [Cassidy] are two of a kind, born on the same day in the same hospital...just several minutes apart. Since birth they become friends, first by reaching their tiny baby hands through the cradle bars to comfort each other and then 16 years old they do the same.

They almost seem to know what they other is thinking, just because of that very reason and because of this are nearly almost always together...in some way. Completely disregarding what society says, they rebel in various mischievous sometimes even malicious ways. 'Pig and Runt - against the world.'

Their idealistic world seems to shift when 17 days before their 17th birthday when Pig develops feelings for his other half and becomes jealous of anyone invading their private little world.

Their parents agree that their relationship is unhealthy and learn that although Pig can't be helped, Runt has a chance to be 'fixed'. They cart her off to some kind of special school while Pig slowly travels further into himself and their world not knowing what to do with the loss of her.

Finally, his mother informs him of where to find her and he sets off desperately in need of finding her for their 17th birthday to find that palace where they can be King and Queen. As he travels various roads to reach her, he becomes steadily more violent spreading his anxiousness through destruction and pain wherever he goes.

Then, when he finds her and they run off together to celebrate their birthday...Pig has a plan and Runt follows if not with a bit if apprehension. The events of their joint-birthday steadily grow more and more out of hand and that connection begins to waiver.

Cillian Murphy once again puts on a brilliant performance as Pig who grows wild with each passing moment without his Runt. Elaine Cassidy also puts on a rather convincing performance of his other half. Seeing that the film is centred on solely these two...they definitely capture your attention with the strang ways they spend their time together and the things which they do for fun and enjoyment.

It seems to be this dark, almost morbid version of a childhood that progresses slowly into adult-hood in a twist of emotions and events that show us what kind of people these two are.

This movie is pure brilliance. Murphy shines in his role as Pig pre 28 Days Later fame. It took me a while to understand the heavy accents. But once I did the story was really rewarding. A story about obsessive love told in a completely original fashion.

A bit strange, but very good. I think Cillian Murphy is the only actor who can pull off cute and creepy at the same time. Elaine Cassidy does an excellent job as well.

Probably my favourite of Murphy's films. Very unique look at two soul-mates who reach the age where things are changing. A love story with an abrupt ending in my opinion. Highly recommend it!

Not a bad film - but as a Cillian fan - i have to admit being a little disapointed - his character wasn't that likeable. And i had trouble understanding the accents at times.

A subtle story that grips you in its own quiet way, I suppose. I don't know---subtle and quiet don't seem to be the right words, but they're close enough.

Finally a 'rite of passage' film without cliches! Sometimes uncomfortably violent, it is also hauntingly tragic and beautiful. A highly original, twisted lovestory that becomes something more
