Plot: Saturday Night Live alum and Adam Sandler sidekick Rob Schneider plays the title character of Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, a miserable fish-tank cleaner who stumbles onto a new and diffe...( read more read more... )rent lifestyle when he looks after the fish of a high-priced male prostitute (Oded Fehr from The Mummy). Deuce teams up with a man-pimp (Eddie Griffin), gets harassed by a crazed cop (William Forsythe), and of course falls in love with a cute client (Arija Bareikis). The nonsensical plot is festooned with gags about wet T-shirts, foul-mouthed senior citizens, flatulence, Tourette's syndrome, narcolepsy, and just about everything else you might imagine. More surprising is that, by and large, the movie works. It's a combination of bad taste and goodheartedness, similar to There's Something About Mary, which Deuce Bigalow is clearly emulating. It's not the pat "people should learn to accept themselves for who they are" theme or the formulaic happy ending; it's that the movie understands that sex is not the same thing as happiness or contentment. For all its crassness, Deuce Bigalow actually treats its characters as people, and the result is silly, obnoxious, and enjoyable. --Bret Fetzer

The original Deuce Bigalow movie wasn't as good as the sequel but it still had some funny parts and it still made me laugh.

After hearing good things about Deuce Bigelow i decided that i should get round to watching it, what a mistake Deuce is just so unfunny its almost painful in palces, the story offers up what should be a great bed to work from butthe actually events through out are not funny and end up just dragging out. Rob Schneider should stick to support acting he just can''t carry a film alone.

The first and ONLY Deuce Bigalow movie. Everything is funny about this movie, and watching it again only makes you laugh at things you missed the first time.

It was good, not brilliant but it had a new type of comedy that Rob Schneider is good at and this was pretty funny in its own way.

Well, there were a couple of laughs, but essentially it's a sexed-up immature comedy aimed at young guys

1999's "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" was a pleasant end-of-the-year surprise, a silly, frivolous concoction that jump-started the film career of "Saturday Night Live" alum Rob Schneider. Despite its randy R-rated edge, it remained innocuously sweet-natured and tender-hearted. After a six-year wait, "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" comes equipped with the same R rating and a narrative trajectory nearly identical to its predecessor. In place of that picture's amiable innocence, however, is a rapid-fire onslaught of gag-worthy jokes more plainly gross than consistently funny. There are some big laughs to be had in Mike Bigelow's mediocre directing debut, but just as many fumbles, and even by the low standards of a comedy called "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo," the plotting is glaringly feeble.

Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo is a low-brow comedy not quite up to the scale of an Austin Powers, There's Something About Mary or Dumb and Dumber, but it is on par with a Big Daddy.

As is usually the case, the movie is a bunch of one-screen gags strung together in the hope of making the audience laugh continually. Because of the great mood I was in, this generally worked. The plot is just a showcase for the gags: Deuce (Saturday Night Live's Rob Schneider) is a fish tank cleaner who ends up being responsible for taking care of the apartment of Antoine (Oded Fehr), a male prostitute. When Deuce begins to monkey around, he manages to destroy a $6000 aquarium, which he must replace or face Antoine's wrath. Needless to say, Deuce begins to sell his "services" to pay for the damage. This results in a somewhat hilarious sequence of episodes where Deuce finally realises his niche in life and finds true love.

Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo has its high spots. In particular, the parody of The Matrix is pretty hilarious. The main politically incorrect focus of the film is primarily on physically handicapped people who are, in a way, outcasts of society. Deuce's services involve making these people feel "normal" again and this is done by taking some risk (of offending the audience) which I appreciated. Generally though, the one-track nature of this approach became tiresome after a while.

The trailer is a bit misleading compared to what actually happens in the film (like in the trailer for Go) which can be interesting, as is the novel way the Tourette's syndrome problem is handled. Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo wil induce a few laughs if you're in the right mood. Worth renting.

Funnier than I thought it was gonna be. I liked the fact that Deuce helps the women feel better about themselves instead of having sex wtih them. Does that make him a bad gigolo though? Anyway, fun flick.

This deuce doesn't have an ace up his sleeve. "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" is lame, the comedy is often offensive and almost never funny, making the film look cheap and junky. It is a scattershot movie where you sit and wait for that next two minutes of humour which often never comes. Throw in derogatory and stereotypical jokes about the obese, the tall, the blind, and those missing limbs and you've got yourself some high art indeed.

I love that skit in South Park "Rob Schneider is the Stapler!". Note to Adam Sandler making Rob into different things like girls, Animals or gigalos is not the key to comedic sucess.
That said there are a couple of laughs.
