This movie is a social commentary on our obsession with violence, and the decadence of our society as we pay money to watch carnage.
That aside, lets be honest here. We watch this movie because we want to watch fast cars, lots of explosions, and we want to watch Jason Statham kick some ass. On that level, it delivers. The plot is actually not to bad, and it is secondary to the action, as it should be in this genre. The special effects were top notch, and the setting and cinematography was interesting. Worth while watching, and it has earned a place on my 'OK Movies' list. For fans of action. -

Pretty fucken awesome, Jason Statham just keeps getting better, Tyrse Gibson is a bit of a douche though. The Death race's are nuts but I think the last one could of been better.

I saw this action flick today 8/24/08. I wasn't expecting much out of this, but when i first sat down in a seat i couldn't believe what i was watching. I couldn't even take my eyes off the screen for one second. This is the best action most entertaining movie ive ever seen. Death Race is an nonstop action rollercoster ride that will keep u on the edge of ur seat throughout. It had a great plot and outstanding performances from all the actors.
This is the best Jason Statham movie so far! One thing i like about statham's acting is that everytime he's on the big screen he always takes it seriously; which i like about any actor that does the same thing in their movies. The reason that Death Race is the best action movie ive ever seen is because of all that happens in the strong intense 3 stages of the race. I just love how the machine guns and the tombstone were built on the vehicles. I thought the 2 most powerful actors in this movie was Ian McShane and Joan Allen. Jason Statham would've been my #1 actor if he would speak up a little bit more. I was surprised at tyrese's acting. He played an awesome part. Natalie Martinez played a good and sexy part. Ive never seen a girl look soooo fine before; especially on the big screen. I mean that. So everyone that hasn't seen Death Race please go today. I promise! It want be a waste of you're money;especially for $5.50.
3 days of 3 stages.
this should be interesting.
thats what i call entertainment.

A forgettable NASTY Movie.....illogical story plot but the hard actions,tremendous stunts,crazy car chases,brutal deaths of inmates and alluring hotchik has somehow turn the movie into a must see film in 2008....

I saw this movie today, it was better then I thought it was going to be. The action was great, Jason Statham and his abs were awsome, I plan on watching it at least ten more times before buying it. It was complete action for those of us who like a good action movie, good looking guy's, fast cars, and jason kicks ass more.

I was looking forward to this until I saw a full length preview and realized that they totally took out the killing pedestrians aspect of the original. WTF!?! I know it takes a lot to shock todays audiences but they could've really pushed the envelope here. Blood and gore galore mixed with the sick humor of points to run over people? That would've been absolutely brilliant with today's fx, but no...instead we get Running Man in cars. Could still be a decent dumb action movie but it's a wait to rent now. Meh.

I don't seeig this done as a remake. They just have to take the original and update. No deep, intertwining story, 20 minutes of dialouge, or let uwe bowel touch it.
