Inspirational and amazing! One man so driven by something he believed in that he fought for more than 15 years. Ioan Gruffordd was superb as William Wilberforce. Highly recommended.

A pretty good movie, though it got confusing with the "present" time and the flashbacks, and it didn't really explain his passion to free the slaves.

This was great. Ioan Gruffudd was perfect as Wilberforce, and really showed how important it was to make himself heard amongst a society that wasn't listening. Historic and beautiful.

The ting about this movie was that it just wasn't overly well done; which really bothers me with fantasy and historical drama. If you want to do either genere- go balls out all the way! The story was sentimental, sappy and half-hearted, the acting was lack luster, the costumes were good, so were the sets but the shots were weird and the score was lame. It had its moments yes but really, it was quite tame. Too tame for historical drama in my opinion.

I have to mention that this story happened before the American Civil War. The reason that is important is because "Amazing Grace" is a true story about the abolition of slave trade in England. It is a wonderful story but it gave me a sad recognition that the Civil War was not needed to end slavery. (It was all a lie made up by Lincoln to rally soldiers to fight for his cause. The Confederates were not for slavery, but for states' rights)

Anyway, when it comes to history, this movie is supposedly accurate. When it comes to believeability, the reactions of the characters as they go through the plot gives you a unique connection. When it comes to entertainment, I, at leasty, was wowed. I had really high expectations for this movie, having recently fallen in love with period dramas. I compared it to "Glory", my all time favortie, as I watched it; I was impressed by this film'srawness and beauty.

William Wilderforce was an incredible man. I would have liked it if there were more vvid images regarding slaves to give more impact, but of course, leaving it a PG attracts more audiences and there is no need to be grossed out! :P

In short, I absolutely loved it! It makes me sad that all it takes to end something like slavery is one brave, strong person and the bloodshed of our Civil War turned from honorable to nothing but shame.

Based on a true story. Ioan Gruffudd (from the "Fantastic Four" movies) plays William Wilberforce, who was a member of the British House of Commons in the 18th century. Wilberforce waged a long and courageous campaign to end the slave trade in the British empire, in the face of strong resistance from other members of the House.

A great movie, with an excellent script, impressive cast, and well directed. Gruffudd may have a weird name, but this guy can really act!

Gotta confess that I didn't know who Wilberforce was until I this movie came out. I think Wilberforce was the one of greatest Brotish politician ever.
Good acting from evryone. Glad it was made.

A film with a strong and important message carried by some great performances. I enjoyed the film but the only disappointment was it didn't have the emotional impact I was expecting. I think this largely came from the fact that the film didn't really show you the conditions of the slaves - it just spoke about them. It was more of a political drama. Still worth watching but the pace is a bit slow (14.6.08).

Not as good as it looks... rather long, and the tiniest bit of coarse language. It did tell the story of William Wilberforce, and the great things he did. It was not easy to do all of that!

Excellent film. Amazing Grace is based on the true story of William Wilberforce. It follows him through his passion, which is to abolish the slave trade in Britain.

Note: If you love bagpipes as much as I do, then at the end of the movie, keep watching and listening...you'll know what I mean. Simply amazing, Amazing Grace.

Well researched it was accurate regarding the histgorical details such as use of the previous House of Commons, and well scripted and cast. There was a note of personal interest as Wilberforce was the MP for my hometown of Hull, and of course we studied him somewhat at school.

OMFG, i HATED THIS MOVIE. I fell asleep in the first 5 minutes then got woke up when the dude started rambling on in the council, then i went to sleep again, i kept begging my parents to let me leave, but they are complete TRUE STORY FANATICS. I SERIOUSLY HATED THIS MOVIE.

never going to see it again.

I really thought this film was going to be more powerful than it actually was. The film itself had a powerful message but didn't have enough scenes to invoke an emotional response for the plight of the slaves. It more had a sterile political point of view throughout the whole story. Most of the parts were a bit slow and trying to be something it just wasn't capable of being. If you like high political drama than this is the film for you. 3 stars

This movie was brilliant. Ioan Gruffud deserves an Oscar for his interpretation of Wilberforce, and the costumes and settings were superb! It was witty, inspiring, tragic... and at the end, I had tears in my eyes!

n my home town this movie was given 4 sessions only. at the last session it was used as a fundraiser by a local Leukemia quest entrant and she managed to get nealry a full theatre (about 500 people). It was an inspiring movie and well done. The flashbacks were not intrusive and the cast were just spectacular. I will certainly be putting this one into my DVD collection

Well the film was good, but throughout the film, Ioan reminded me of someone from somewhere. Maybe its a TV show or another film. But i just distracted me from the good film i was watching. Does anyone know who it reminds me of?!
