,,dan evans: and you just remember that your old man walked ben wade to that station when nobody else would."

a small rancher, dan evans (christian bale), is living an ordinary and poor life, changed by the making of the railways. when he meets ben wade, a notorius outlaw (russell crowe), he finds himself one of the escorts who will take wade to 3:10 train to yuma for the reward of 200$... brilliant performances, memorable moments and quotes, a well - written script, great soundtrack, captivating story, fantastic cinematography = one of the best modern westerns ever!

Sub par in acting, directing and script. Laughable dialogue at times. Holes in the plot. In the scenes that had the potential for greatness, they were overdramatized. A few good shoot-em-ups, but the film is basically Russell Crowe and his smart-ass remarks. All in all, did not restore my waning interest in Westerns.

This movie was a surprise for me. I dont usually like westerns but I was gripped from the beginning. The ending was not "typical" and it was very emotional. I always liked the bad guy in most horror movies and it felt good to want to root for both the good and bad. IF you havent seen it, take the chance and rent it!!

Not too bad for a remake. The shifting around of the eldest son was a little weird, however it did make the film much more feeling like the time period. Better western than many I have seen lately.

a REAL movie should have a story to tell and this movie really has an impact to the viewers. I like the idea that money can make a person go wild and don't judge a book by its cover!

Oh my goodness this is one of the best movies that I have ever seen seriously!! It is THE PERFECT action movie and it never ever gets boring. The dramatic acting is great but there are also funny parts. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe did wonderful jobs in this movie! The music is really really good too. Just the kind of music that I would expect out of a Western movie. Actually this WHOLE movie had everything that I expected out of it. Great gun fights, coach robberies, just everything that you would expect will be present in this movie. Kudos to this movie!

I don't usually watch Westerns but this was an excellent film nonetheless! The film is carried on the great performances by Crowe and Bale. I enjoyed some of the action cues with some great gun fights all against a classic western backdrop but the real reason to watch this was for the great performances from the leads (28.10.08)

Awwww this movie is way too sad at the end. Sorry to give away the ending, but the kids need a father more than they need $1000 if you ask me.

If you enjoyed Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven", then you will love this film. The cast is brilliant and the on screen chemistry is obvious. While one is better off following directors rather than actors, I find myself seeing every movie that Bale and Crowe star in, and I'm rarely disappointed. I won't bother summarizing the plot. The film has all of the necessary elements of a true Western: a dangerous and outwardly heartless gunslinger, a truly heartless land owner, and decent family man (protagonist) who's adherence to a strict and honorable moral code is constantly tested and often ridiculed in the harsh frontier. The movie takes these basic elements and peals them back. The actors are able to give the characters depth without becoming cliché. The action is well performed and well shot. You will not be disappointed.

Gli attori sono di livello abnorme e il genere mi ha sempre attratto, pur non soddisfandomi mai. L'aria moderna che si respira in questo film, a differenza degli illustrissimi predecessori, è stata molto di mio gradimento.

Avery good film, thanks to a smart script and two excellent central performances from two of the finest leading male stars around. Very much in the classic western style as opposed to the later Clint Eastwood inspired re-inventions, this film shows that the old-style Western can still work in modern cinema.

This movie is intense. You really get an idea of the 'Wild West' with a look of a little bit of everyone from all walks of life from the poor rancher, to the townspeople, to posses', and one of the most dangerous outlaws in the frontier - Ben Wade.

The actors done a great job and were all more then convincing, even the supporting actors done insanly good. The movie is full of action and emotion and worthy of a watch and owning.

    **Spoiler beyond this point**

A lot of people hate the ending and rate it lower because of that. I at first hated it as well but then I got to thinking - he has escaped from Yuma twice. He calls his horse in the end as the train rolls off, so it's clear he has no intentions on sticking in Yuma and was doing that merely for the boys benefit.

He killed his entire gang and at first I thought that stole from the movie as these guys risked there lives and showed passion to get him back, but we must remember Wade's words in the tavern, "He made a mistake, he was stupid, now he's dead". Ben Wade could spring himself from Yuma, his gang should of kept on riding and met up with him later. They made a mistake, they were stupid, now there dead. I think Wade taking them out proves his ruthlessness - he killed them even after there sacrifice to keep him from prison.

It's in a man's nature to take what he wants, but even a mean man has a heart.

Good westerns are far and few in-between. 3:10 To Yuma ranks as one of the best. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale have great chemistry together. The script was well writing and this was Director James Mangold best movie so far.

3:10 To Yuma is yet another great modern made western to ad to the list. It is a remake of the original from 1957, but in my opinion, was ten times better the second time around. I could hardly make myself sit through the original version. That may have something to do with my age, who knows. I would much rather sit down to a western that was made after 1990 than forcing myself to sit through one that was made in the 50's or 60's. Sometimes I feel like the western is overlooked and under appreciated. I hope to see more westerns come out of Hollywood in the next few years, thinking that somehow this 3:10 to Yuma will ignite the western flame again and spark an awakening in this genre. I'm not saying that this is the absolute best modern western made in recent years, and I know it will probably not go down in history as one of the classics that we will never forget, like Tombstone and Young Guns, but damn, it was definitely a great film, and deserves it's props. Throughout the film there are bullets flying and men being killed in the blink of an eye. But what kind of western would it be if that was not the case. The most surprising aspect of the movie is the unconventional bond that forms between the two main characters Ben Wade (played by Russell Crowe) and Dan Evans (played by Christian Bale). While these men should be enemies by all means, by the end of the movie the bond is apparent and is real. Ben Wade is a charismatic villain, known best through out the West for his killing tally. He has held up every shipment of money to support the expansion of the railroad, and has killed anyone who got in his way. Wade also shows a light, sexy, humorous side and a weakness for the opposite sex. Dan Evans is a married farmer with two young sons who all live on the family farm that has been passed down from the previous generation. The family is going through hard times and about to loss the farm when he falls upon the job of taking Wade into custody and escorting him to the train station a few towns over, then putting him on the 3:10 to Yuma prison train. All this for a measly $200. Who knows how much that would be these days. In Yuma, Wade is to stand trial and be hung. Through out the journey, the relationship between the two men grows into something comparable to the Yin Yang. Evans begins to believe that Wade has some good in him, and Wade begins to believe that Evans just might help him get out of the life ending situation that he is facing in Yuma. The movie shows you the obvious differences in the two men, and yet how much the start to like each other while on their long journey. This factor only leaves you guessing more and more about the final outcome of Wade. Will Evans let him go, or will he stick to his "guns" and fulfill his duty of delivering Wade. The final chapter is the final show down, and you will be surprised how the journey ends for both men. The two actors have a great connection on screen, and both give great performances. Russell Crowe is at his best when he plays the smart, unstoppable type, and Christian Bale at his best is always the hero. The contrast of the two actors is quite noticeable in the film. Bale is as usual intense and tight lipped, while Crowe is in his realm, very relaxed, as the stand out character he always seems to play. Together, the two make a great pair of opposites, on and off of the big screen. This is a definite buy!!!
