Plot: A small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher.
At first glance, 3:10 to Yuma has all of the makings of a spectacular film. A star studded cast, a classic story (it's a remake), and the blessing of several noted critics. The two villains in the film steal the show. Russell Crowe is absolutely flawless in his portrayal of an infamous murderer and thief, and the always-underrated Ben Foster gives a chilling performance as Crowe's right-hand-man. Just the look on his face sent shivers up my spine. Despite all of these advantages, this film is only good and not great. Christian Bale, who is one of my favorite actors, gives a rare average performance in the leading role, but I think that the major flaw is that this movie is a western. In my opinion the western genre is dead. It's been beaten to death. There is no longer any new territory to explore, and this film suffers as a result of this sad fact. If you feel differently about westerns than I do, you will most likely enjoy this film more than I did, but to me it will always just be a retread on familiar ground.
good movie, but i can't help but feel that the plot was pointless and dissapointing... prehaps i just love the good guys
A slow start with a crap ending, but the last quarter of this movie (up until the last 5 minutes) is pure entertainment. Great acting from everyone. I just was hoping for a better turn out than what happened.
A Great movie. One of the greatest western movie ive ever seen, the pefect Revolver and Shotgun movie.
Good movie. So nice seeing Crowe and Bale in a film together. Not only are they both gorgeous, but they're fantastic actors.
Great western. Simple story, good shoot outs. Great cast. I wasn't a big crowe fan but his last couple of flicks have been great. Loved Foster in this.
This was a great experience at the cinema. I went to a preview screening as I just couldn't wait any longer and glad i made the effort. The movie has had good and bad reviews, mainly because of its ending. I can see why some would think otherwise also... i saw it in a different way than the whole being baffled by the characters actions.
I think that bales character decided to do what he did to prove a point to his son, who seemed to admire the outlaw and in a way louring towards that way, something his dad would not want. Bales character suffered a lot and you can tell he just got sick of being pushed over and to me the whole story is believable.
Crowe's character was brilliant because he keeps you guessing, he was like an anti hero, you love to hate to love him kind of way. I think what he does at the end makes him an even more likable character but at the same time you like him for being bad and so calm about it all.
All in all i'm well pleased and think it was worth all the wait i had to do. My favourite of the year so far. Roll on Jesse James.
GOod proof of Christian Bale and.. of course Crowe is always a good choice of bad boy role. nice movie!
one of the best films of 2007. Director James Mangold is the director of this movie of a remake from the Delmar Daves' 1957 Western of the same title that starred Glenn Ford and Van Heflin. In this new version, which is bigger, bloodier, way noisier and more violent than the original. this this movie it stars two great actors, Christian Bale and Russell Crowe and there performances ae great. the story is about a small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher. they say that this is the best western since Clint Eastwood's Oscar-winning 1992 film
"Unforgiven" and i would agree with this. an astounding masterpiece of a film from director James Mangold.
Worthy western remake, backed by a decent cast, some surprisingly memorable scenes, and an outstanding script which for me is what earns it most of its high rating. Bale and Crowe give very good performances and even Ben Foster, who I would never have imagined in a role like this, is a pretty flawless piece of casting. It's directed brilliantly, the soundrack is simple but harmless and fitting, the turns are unpredictable for the most part, and the ending is beautiful. There's nothing spectacular enough about it to change your life, but there's nothing 'wrong' with it at all...
One of the best westerns in years, this movie and "The Assassination of Jesse James" have revived the genre to the glory that it once was.
HUGE disappointment! Gave Bale every handicap to try to make it more tense. THEN THEY KILL HIM! Stupid version. See the original!
ANOTHER GREAT JOB BY RUSSELL CROWE. JUST GOES TO SHOW WHY HE IS ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE ACTORS. CHRISTIAN BALE ALSO PLAYED HIS PART VERY WELL,

James Mangold's follow-up to his Oscar-bait Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line (2005) is this violent but thoughtful Western adapted from an Elmore Leonard short story -- a remake of the 1957 film. Christian Bale stars as a rancher who, with grown son in tow, joins a posse meant to bring a notorious bank robber to justice. Russell Crowe is the unexpectedly human villain, and Ben Foster is a knockout as his sadistic (and infatuated) right-hand man.
the premise seemed really good. i love russell crowe and i wanted to like this movie, but... despite having grown up with my grandparents and my dad into these kinda flicks, i'm not a fan of westerns.
Awesome action sequences. The plot was believable, too (for the time frame), which is always a plus. Good storyline.
Admittedly I saw this mainly because I LOVE Alan Tudyk (who is highly underrated and wholly brilliant). But holy SHIT! Ben Foster... robbed of the recognition he clearly deserved for his role as Charlie. I had to look at the poster to remember that Bale was even in this film! HA!!!! My rating is almost entirely for Ben's performance.
One of the best western movies I had ever seen! Strong play by "Russell Crow"!! I like his play as a bad guy!
Bale and Crowe do certainly play beautifully off each other, but it's Ben Foster who steals this film as the loyal but psychopathic Charlie Prince. In another universe, he'd have made a great Joker. But anyway, as good and enjoyable as this film is, it's let down hard by a stupid ending.
3:10 To Yuma is a remake of the 1957 Glenn Ford western in which an honest rancher injured in the civil war takes on the job of escorting a notorious outlaw to the prison train in order to save his family's ranch from the railroad. This film really does retain the spirit of the original as it has a real old-fashioned feel to it. The direction is glossy rather than gritty, and the story of two contrasting personalities learning mutual respect under adverse circumstances is hardly a new one. But Bale and Crowe put in a couple of great performances, bolstering the rather workmanlike themes; Bale's down at heel working man trying to find some self respect and Crowe's educated and charming but ruthless outlaw spark off some really good chemistry, particularly during the great showdown finale. It probably won't win over anybody who does not like traditional westerns, but it's a very well executed and enjoyable tale for those who do.
I don't like westerns (unless you consider 'Brokeback Mountain' a western but I don't- it's a melodrama). I don't like Russell Crow- I think he's full of himself and a bit of a jerk (however I liked him in 'Cinderella Man'... maybe he's on an upward trend- like Heath Ledger before he died). So why did I like this so much? No complaints! Christian Bale gives a good performance as the sweet man looking out for his family, and Russell Crowe gives (as far as I am conserned) an Oscar worthy performance that is twisted and interesting to watch. The entire movie you just sit on the edge of your seat waiting for the predictable but lovely ending. Well depends on how you define lovely- but it was fitting so it works! And it was shot very well too. So while not for everyone, it's still impressive and is worth seeing.

How could you not love this movie?? Incredible. It had me glued, even when I was tired at 4am & wanted to crash out... lol
Just seen this movie and I really enjoyed the Storyline
(thought there could be a bit more gore though like the Western game 'Gun')BUT OTHERWISE A GREAT FILM!
have any of you seen the original? it is brilliant. but i wanna watch this aswell.
"There Gonna Hang Me In The Morning.." This film has the true essence of a classic western. I haven't seen the original film as this one is the remake, but I can tell you I loved this modern western. The chemistry between Russel and Christian were astounding. I am not a big fan of Crowe but this film he played the villain very well and I think over the years his acting has improved. The whole rest of the cast fit in well to the picture and setting of this film. Ben Foster who had a small role as the angel in "X-Men The Last Stand" did a great job playing the ruthless heart-less bad guy. I def would watch this movie again and again. 4 stars
They're gonna hang me in the morning
Before this night is done
They're gonna hang me in the mornin'
And I'll never see the sun
Haha it's such an awesome movie, the acting was superb by both of them Russell & Christian
Execellent movie! Haven't seen a good western movie in quite a while, but this one was great, I loved it, great cast with the 2 leading charectors Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, great movie!
This is the best western made in a very long time. Crowe and Bale were amazing. A movie you can watch over and over. This movie will become a classic.
This movie was well done! I thought the acting was grade A! Crowe and Bale were unbelievable!
