My review:
Most people would say that this is the greatest animated film of all time. I think most critics and viewers think that because of the plot in general and the film sort of argues with nature that children destroy toys and get bored of them in which they really do. Also some of the toys in the film are real life toys like Mr. Potato Head, Woody, Buzz and toys like Rex, Slinky, Hamm and the barbies which appear in the sequel. Also the general board games involved like Battleship which Hamm and Mr. Potato Head play together and also the card games aswell. This is without a doubt one of the greatest family films ever made. Another reason why I love this film is because it has my favourite actor Tom Hanks voiced as Woody. This film is a legend and as popular as ever just like the sequel. This is a little overrated though. I used to have all of the toys of this film and still have them somewhere in my house of Woody and Buzz Lightyear. I couldnt stop watching this film when I was a little kid and still love it now. Always have and always will. I think this was the first film I ever saw.

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!
Directed by: Mel Gibson Starring: Mel Gibson, Sophie Marceau, Catherine McCormack, Patrick McGoohan, Brendan Gleeson

My review:
In 14th Century Scotland, William Wallace leads his people in a rebellion against the tyranny of the English King, who has given English nobility the 'Prima Nocta'.. a right to take all new brides for the first night. The Scots are none too pleased with the brutal English invaders, but they lack leadership to fight back. Wallace creates a legend of himself, with his courageous defence of his people and attacks on the English. This film really touched me because of the upsetting twist that occurs with William Wallace and his wife when his wife is murdered by a group of English soldiers. This affects Wallaces life forever and he sort of becomes like obsessed with war and wanting to get like revenge on the English for what happened to his wife and also to the Scots people too. This film taught me a lot that some wars are for a ridiculous and a heartless reason which is what WWII was like. Like Adolf Hitler was killing innocent people who had done nothing wrong at all. Well, I am English but in 14th century, I admit the English were cold hearted b****rds. This film sort of made me feel ashamed in slight ways that I am British but there are some other reasons why I am proud to be British. This film really inspired me because it teaches us about freedom and not to treat people with such disrespect. Mel Gibson delivers a satisfactory performance as William Wallace. I personally believe that Mel Gibson is better as a director rather than an actor. Mel Gibson really looked great as William Wallace but I wish his acting was better. He did act a very fierce and deadly man but I personally dont think he acted very emotional to his character. William Wallaces character is very similar to Gladiators Maximus Decimus Meridius. I liked Sophie Marceau too as Princess Isabelle. Mel Gibson has become a really good filmmaker after he has made two amazing epic films. I loved Braveheart and Apocalypto. I find the make-up in this film very similar to the make-up in Apocalypto. I find that the action was quite similar apart from that this is a war film and that Apocalypto isnt. This film has become one of the greatest epic and war films of all time. Also one of the greatest history/biography films of all time. It is certainly on my list of that. I felt that William Wallaces relationship with his wife Murron MacClannough was very powerful because it is like they were both made for each other and will be together forever. After that moment, I dont think Wallace got along with anyone at all because he was still gutted of what happened and he became obsessed with fighting the war. The largest twist is when Wallaces wife Murron is brutally murdered by a group of English soldiers who Wallace kills afterwards. Also, the dramatic ending is a large twist aswell as Wallace teaches us all about freedom and redemption. The only thing I can actually say is true is that the film is set in the 14th century and also because of the English war with the Scots. This film was very graphic from the war action scenes. There are a lot of blood with the stabbing scenes and the cutting of heads etc. Well you know the graphic details. The make-up is superb and so is the cinematography too. The score is both inspiring and heart racing too. The art direction was good too and so was the outstanding script too. This film was a winner of 5 Academy Awards: Best Picture 1995 (beating Apollo 13, Babe, Il Postino and Sense And Sensibility), Best Director (Mel Gibson), Best Cinematography, Best Make-Up and Best Sound Editing but was a nomination for Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Original Score and Best Original Screenplay. I am afraid to say that this didnt quite deserve any acting nominations at all because I dont think the acting was that good. This film shows us how some people may react to losing someone/something that you love so dearly that you could die for. This film achieved a lot of things for me that every epic film must need but the only disappointing thing for me was the acting. Braveheart will always have its rightful place as one of the greatest epic and war films of all time just like other similar epics like Gladiator, Troy and 300.
